Hey everyone. I am having some issues with getting Colton baptized. His dad wanted me to wait until Colton was 3 because his dad did not feel like he was ready for it yet. He also wanted Colton to make his own decision about getting baptized. I wanted to get Colton baptized as soon as possible because he was not baptized as a baby and he is now 13 months old and I know it needs to be done as soon as possible. I know that I would be committing a mortal sin by not getting him baptized. Colton’s dad and I are not in a relationship but we plan to be in a relationship in the future. We have joint custody of Colton but each of us has an equal say as far as religious decisions go for Colton.

Anyway, I kept talking to Colton’s dad about getting him baptized because I knew Colton’s dad’s feelings on the issue and I did not want to hurt his feelings. Well, his dad did finally tell me to go ahead and get him baptized but his dad seems to think that I don’t care about his feelings in the matter. I told him that I do care about his feelings in the matter or else I wouldn’t have even talked to him about it.

Colton’s dad is a Catholic like me but he is not a practicing Catholic and he does not believe all of the teachings of the Catholic Church. I asked him if he would be at Colton’s baptism and he said that he would not be there.

So anyway, I would just really appreciate your prayers for Colton’s dad that he would come around on the issue and especially that he would attend Colton’s baptism. I know that he will regret missing out on this hugely important event in Colton’s life later on down the road if he doesn’t go. So anyway, please pray for Colton’s dad.

Get him baptised as soon as possible.

And just pray for everything else to iron out.

Yes the Rc church teaches it is a mortal sin to delay Baptism for extreme extended amounts of time because if something happened to the child and they died without being baptised, it could potentially be a neglect of the parent to have never spiritually looked after the Child and got them baptised.

Colton’s dad is really over-estimating the abilities of a three-year-old to comprehend complex issues and make important life choices.

Hail Mary,
Full of grace,
The Lord is with Thee
Blessed art Thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb,
Jesus
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of death,
Amen

Holly, I hope and pray you can work this out, but with such major differences in religion, I’m not sure you should pursue a marriage with this man, though I can understand why you would want to. Getting along to coparent your son is an excellent goal, but he would have to be in a very different place spiritually, I think, for the marriage to work.

Praying for all of you.

Hi Holly,

Prayers said that everything works out.

May God bless all of you! ❤️ :grouphug:

Gracious and merciful Father, please come to their assistance.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Get that baby Baptized and raise him in the faith.
Praying for you.

Could you point out to me where the RCC teaches this, I am a little confused:confused:

Praying for a happy resolution to this. You are making the right decision IMO. Kudos to you.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may god rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

For Help in Trials

Most holy apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor who delivered your beloved Master into the hands of His enemies has caused you to be forgotten by many. But the Church honors and invokes you universally as the patron of hopeless cases–of things despaired of. Pray for me who feels so hopeless. Make use, I implore you, of that particular privilege accorded to you of bringing visible and speedy help where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, in particular Holly3278, and that I may bless God with you and all the elect throughout eternity. I promise you, O Blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen.

Holly3278,
you most certainly not committing any mortal sin by not having Colton baptized; nor is Colton…his original sin simply still remains until he is baptized

have you received the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation?..if so, baptize him yourself …get some Holy Water from your church (fount), pour it on his forehead and say…“I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”…that’s it…

I intentional did this to both of our daughters while still in the delivery room as a precaution
was suggested and recommended by our parish priest at the time

Holly378, you and your loved ones are in my prayers…may you find resolve

You’re not required to be baptized to baptize, actually, but even so, I wouldn’t recommend the OP do it herself.

And anyway, I want to apologize, because I didn’t realize at first this topic was in Prayer Intentions, so my advice is not appropriate in this thread.

I will continue to pray for you, Holly, and your family.

Yes. Please allow the priest to Baptize.
Praying for a resolution to this dilemma soon.

Praying for you, your son and your son’s father, that this may be resolved as soon as possible and he allows his son to at least be baptized. It makes Colton a part of the Body, a member of the Church, it allows Grace to pour into his soul, it is the Seal on his forehead, it is his Wedding garment for the banquet…it is so many things! Many Catholics have lost comprehension of the sacraments and their necessity. I hope your significant other will relent and come to an understanding of his own faith. God bless.
