On Monday, I asked my Dad to help me build a small Blessed Mary garden in my backyard. Today, he came over and helped me lay the retaining wall and pull in the dirt. It was a tough, tough job (I KNOW I’d never be a bricklayer 🙂 ), but we got it done in about an hour and a half. The easy part was finding the annuals and perennials–the more difficult part after that, I thought, was finding an appropriate statue of the Virgin Mary. Or so I thought. 🙂

Dad came back over this afternoon after his lunch, and this was the LAST thing I expected out of his mouth: “Say, you wanted a Mary statue, right? Well, I have one in my trunk”.

I was stunned. Abjectly, happily struck dumb to speechlessness! You see, my parents are not Catholic (I’m the ONLY Catholic, and a convert at that, on either side of my family) and while my Dad has been “okay” (read: not saying much) with my being Catholic, he brought me Mary today as a gift. As a GIFT!

I tell you, I was laughing my head off and crying happy tears at the same time. OMG, I just have no words!!!

And she’s just perfect. She’s the perfect size, and you know something, someone could offer me a diamond-encrusted Virgin, and I’d turn it down. The simple, white resin Mary that my Dad picked out himself is the one that’s in my garden. Not only that, Dad kept referring to Mary as “her” and not as “it”. Plus, when we went to pick out annuals and perennials he’d say “this would look good next to her”, etc.

I just have no words. Jesus is just so, so good.

Once Mary gets hold of 'em, they’re conquered! (Today a statue, tomorrow RCIA???)

Oh, what a sweet story! Maybe you could ask him for some Catholic apologetics materials for Christmas and hope he leafs through them a bit before wrapping them 😉

What a treasure, blessing and memory!

We want a picture, pretty please!!!

Interesting story. Believe it or not, I’ve only had one Catholic statue in my life. It’s (or her) head broke off. 😦

🙂 I want to see a picture too please. 🙂 I’d like to see a picture of your garden as well. I’m still working on mine and I don’t know what other plants/flowers to include.

twosweetgirls,

I hope your dad will be a Catholic soon. 🙂

If you still have the statue, use superglue to put the head back. 🙂

😃 twosweetgirls, You have one of the most wonderful stories, and most precious memories, it is absolutely incredible. I too would like to see a picture. I have had a thought of a gardent like that, but decided to wait until the fall. TOOO Special for words.👍 God Bless You and your father also.

So here’s my Mary garden!

Laying the foundation row; MAN, those suckers were heavy

It’s taking shape!

The wall is done! Now we’re pulling the dirt down (btw, Dad did the first row, and I did the other two; that would’ve been too much for him)

My garden is complete; I just love it ❤️

what an awesome garden! The surrounding trees are perfect.
You and your dad did a great job together.
I am glad you had helped him with 2 rows - those bricks are heavy.

Seeing your dad from the side, he looks gentle. 🙂

👍 twosweetgirls, WOW! Now that is something to be PROUD of, and She is beautiful. You and your dad did a Fantastic Job.:clapping: I know that you have to be proud and your father must love and respect you very much. :hug3: Be patient, God is working with your dad, it is so obvious. YOU ARE BLESSED.😃

I thought about that, but when I tried to put the head back together, I realized that many small but important chips also had broken off. The head didn’t break off clean either–more diagonal along the mouthline. Pretty horrid!

By the way, the garden is beautiful!

twosweetgirls,

Wow, there seems to be quite a few pine trees in your back yard - are they planted or some kind of natural forest thing? 😃

😉 Hello, I noticed the trees also. We do not see many like that in the south, you must be from the north. Is this correct? The trees really do set everything off, sooooo lovely.🙂

Ok - so I’m sitting in a meeting on the phone at work right now, listening in while I read your story…

THANK GOD FOR THE MUTE BUTTON!!

I just started sobbing, and still can’t stop crying!!! I’m not sure why this has hit me the way it has, but I’m still sniffing and crying.

Oh geeze… 😊

Such a lovely story, I’m so happy for you!

What a wonderful gesture by your Father! I am thrilled for you, your happiness shows through the post and I have to tell you that it made me a little teary-eyed!😊 🙂

Wow. What a wonderful story. It made me choke up a bit! Isn’t God amazing in his faithfulness to us? Keep praying for your Dad. He’s hooked now!

After I hit “Submit Reply”, I’m showing your pictures to my husband. "Honey…I have a new project for you! "🙂

Thanks for the great lift this morning.
