SO…All of my protestant family members are going to hell just b/c they aren’t Catholic. That, my friend, is a load of BS. What does the bible say? For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that WHOSOEVER believeth in him shall NOT PERISH but receive EVERLASTING LIFE. You do NOT have to be Catholic to insure your soul is saved. You have to accept CHrist and follow him, follow his commandments as listed in the New Testament. Catholics receive a fuller experience with Christ but they aren’t the ONLY way to Heaven. You need to reword your statement there.

As for the Grey 007 dude. I’m sure he meant no harm and misspoke when he said he received the sacraments but of course you had to ignore what he was trying to say and just focus on the one little mistake and judge and nitpick!

You guys need to grow up and show Christian charity. If all Catholics were like some of you I would be ashamed to call myself one. I personally didn’t mean to offend anyone in my earlier posts but I was sharing my opinion and defending myself. But this level of attacking is ridiculous.
Your reading comprehension is a bit off target on this one. That’s not what I said…re-read it. I’m not going to retype it.

Glad

Hi again, 🙂

Here are some sites to help both of you learn about the Catholic Faith.

St. Paul center for biblical theology
This is a website by Scott Hahn VERY informative! It will help you learn about the Bible from a Catholic perspective among other things.

Catholic Home Study Service

An awesome course that helps you learn about the faith. It’s FREE!!! BTW, these are actually books not booklets.

Bible Christians Society

You can download the talks for free and listen to them anytime. They will help you learn about your faith as well as how to defend it.

Contraception, Why Not! is a cd that you can get for the price of the shipping from One More Soul. Well worth the listen! I would encourage both of you to listen to it. 👍

Lastly, The Catechism of the Catholic Church This is the official teachings of the Church.

and the Compendium of the Catechism. This is in a nice question and answer format. It makes the Catechism easier to understand.

I hope these sites help you as much as they have helped me.

There are a number of non-Christians out there that have far more respect for the Catholic Church than many Christians do. For myself personally, I would far rather my daughter be with a non-Christian who respects her Faith and was open to learning about it, than for her to be with a Christian who had no respect for her Faith even though he has an enormous love for God.

This is probably one of the saddest comments I have ever seen posted on this site.

For the record:

He is not “anti-Catholic” to the point where he will not set foot inside a church. He has gone to church with me numerous times, and I think the biggest thing is that he has a misunderstanding about Catholicism like many Protestants do.

We have already discussed using NFP and he is totally fine with that.

Either hash this out first and get married, or don’t marry at all – because “hoping for change” isn’t fair to either party.
Agree with going into marriage hoping the other partner will change is not a good idea. Sometimes they will but there is also the possibility that they will not. Having this view can also lead the person who was expected to change to feel that they weren’t loved/respected for themselves. Not good for any relationship.

For the ones of you on here that have put down her fiance because he attends a church that has “good music” and shouting or whatever you all wanted to call it. That is his form and type of worship to God. Lifting his hands and singing, is his worship to God. It is amazing to me that you here think it is strange to have such things.
Other factors than theology attract people to a particular church or to particular services that a church offers. This is why many churches have a range of services – quiet contemplative ones, ones with lots of loud music, ones with long and deep sermons. We should keep this in mind before we criticise forms that don’t suit us and occasionally go to one to widen our experience. Seems this is what Bulletproof and her potential fiancé are doing.

Marriage is about shared values.
But we do not necessarily express our values in the same way. Years ago I was amazed to find that a friend who supported a Political Party with very different views and I actually had the same motivation. He couldn’t understand why it led me to be a member of my Party and I couldn’t understand his choice of Party. But we had found out we had the same starting point. Knowing whether this is so could be helpful to Bulletproof and her potential fiancé.

As you claim to be not Catholic now, you should understand that the OP’s fiance told her he does not want to be married in the Catholic Church, despite her desire to be. He does not want his children raised Catholic, which is a required promise of the Catholic party. So she has a choice, either to marry this very inflexible fellow in the manner he selfishly desires, and to raise her children in his ecclesial community while she stifles her own religion; to join his church; or to break it off now, before it goes to the point where she is in misery.
Another way to look at this is to say that he is following his conscience and being honest about his desires. These qualities are needed for a marriage to have a chance of success.

Would you say the same thing about a Catholic who was saying that they did not want to be married in another church? Insisted on the children being raised Catholic?

I haven’t got the impression Bulletproof’ that your potential fiance is “anti-Catholic” but others giving him the label may turn him into one. Also there’s a big difference between saying “this isn’t for me” to be anti something.

As soon as I pressed the post button I had another idea and rather than add it to my previous post decided to post it separately.

That is that people have different levels of tolerance for living with difference – for someone with a low tolerance being married to someone who has different religious beliefs may be too challenging, for someone else it may be just what they like. Same applies in other areas like different ideas about how children should be brought up.

Hope you are finding some gems among the posts, bulletproof.
