As for being unable to extinguish the fire - you’re wrong, according to the We choose to either accept God’s free gift of salvation or reject it. The scriptures I have furnished speak about those who believe and turn away.
elvis, I have accepted God’s free gift of salvation and am now justified, declared innocent by the Almighty Judge through the righteousness of Jesus Christ. I am now his adopted Son, not by the works I’ve done but by the perfect work of Christ. And now that I have been purchased by His blood, He did not leave me without help to accomplish what I couldn’t beforehand. He has prepared within me a new heart and has planted His seed within my new heart, and the light and rain to keep it alive and growing is provided by the Master Gardener.

“We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world”

"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."

Great post

But only for those where the seed is not retained.

**3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. **
This means that after you have been justified (reconciled to God) by His grace Ephesians 2:8-9, you now have “hope” of eternal life Titus 3:7, but in order to realize this “hope” and receive the crown of eternal life after you die, you will need to choose to continually purify yourself from sin until the “end” of your life so that you may indeed inherit the promise Hebrews 3:6.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

You love Christ **only if **you obey/keep His commandments 1 John 2:4.

John 14:21
He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

Hebrews 6:10-12
For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

We must obey God until we die (until the end) or else we will not inherit eternal life Hebrews 5:9.
4Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
If you commit sins that lead to death (the loss of eternal life) 1 John 5:16-17 such as these mortal (deadly) sins Galatians 5:19-21, then you will not inherit eternal life even though you were saved at one point in time. But, if you repent of your sins, you will again be saved, but then you must remain in obedience to God’s commandments until death in order to inherit eternal life. Salvation is a life-long process, not a one-time event.
7Little children, let no man deceive you: **he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. **
8He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin****; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Those that do the Will of God (obey His commandments and do good works Ephesians 2:10) will be saved. Those who do evil will not be saved. “Whoever is born of God doth not sin” means that if a person is truly born of God (a follower of Christ until death - the end) then he will choose to not sin.
10In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
If a person sins deadly sins after he has been saved, then he is no longer saved. He can become saved again if he repents. A person must endure to **the end of his life **in obedience to God in order to inherit eternal life Mark 13:13.

I agree that all these things are true, however, they are irrelevant to the passage. The passage refers to those who HAVE ESCAPED FROM DEFILEMENT. This cannot happen with head knowledge. THe only way to escape defilement is by the blood of Christ. The only way to be free of entanglement from sin is through being born again of the Spirit. People are not disentagled from sin by “head knowlege”. The Gk word for “knowledge” in this passage is the same used here:

Phil 1:9-11
9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

This is not "head knowledge’ but EXPERIENTIAL knowledge.

An apostate is one who falls away from the faith. One cannot fall away from that which they never embraced. An unbeliever, therefore, cannot be an apostate.

Heb 6:3-8
4 For it is impossible to restore again to repentance those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their own account and hold him up to contempt. 7 For land which has drunk the rain that often falls upon it, and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. 8 But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed; its end is to be burned.

A person is an apostate who falls away AFTER they have been enlighted, tasted of the heavenly gift, and become partakers of the HS. No on can partake of the HS unless they are born again. These have had experiential knowledge of Christ, and been admitted to the Eucharist (only the baptized were permitted) to taste the heavenly gift.

God has purposed that we choose whether we wish to spend eternity with HIm. If we lose our saltiness, then we will be thrown out.

It is certaily a poor choice of words. How can one “lose” that which one has not yet obtained?

I agree that it is God’s purpose for the Christian to be united with his heavenly inheritance. Not all those who are born again will finish the race. Two thirds of the seeds that sprouted did not bear fruit, and were lost.
All I can say to you and Elvis in this regard is that you fully and completely underestimate the power of God in Salvation and cannot distinguish a believer from a non-believer as distinguished in the Word of God. I can simply discern that you will never always believe that a person can lose something that God has never given to them nor understand how a person actually receives the Gift of God and what that means. The Holy Spirit, the power of God can rectify that at His choosing and according to His will and according to His purpose in the life of any one.

Both of you mix up spiritual pride or arrogance with confidence, not in my self, I left all that a few years ago, but fully put my confidence in Jesus Christ and the work He accomplished alone on the cross for me.

Both of you have enough pride to say we need to help in our salvation, we need to perform this and that to add sanctifying grace; as though the Lord was unable to complete it 100% as He said “It is Finished” and God the Father resurrected Him, which said I, the Father, accept this Sacrifice as completely sufficient. Pride prevents a person from letting go of self 100% and putting self 100% in the hands of the Savior, then stepping away and let the power of God work in and through that new creation.

This is why the Luke account of the narrow gate says (paraphrased) “many will actually find the right gate, but are unable to strive through it”. So why is that? They can’t let go of that little bit of self that says I must do something once I agree I want the Gift.

Your example of head verses experimental knowledge does not fly. Why? In other places where it is w/o any doubt to the causal reader; it is the same word or root of the word or both. Need an easy to read example? Romans 3:20

I wish both of you the very best in your walks. 🙂

One must choose to continue with the Trinity, God at work within us to will and to do. I agree that the concept of “lose salvation” is not useful. On the contrary, the Apostles taught that we had not yet attained it, and that the mature attitude is to hold fast to what we have received, to persevere in the present, and to look forward with constant hope.
Very sad. :imsorry:

"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."
1 John 3:9-10
Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. 10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

If you sin, then you are no longer “born of God” and His “seed no longer remains in you.”

1 Corinthians 3:16-18
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. 18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.

If you defile your temple with sin, then you are no longer saved.
**
You reap what you sow.**

Galatians 6:7-9
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

My question to you about the sacrifice of the mass was to make a point about the timelessness of Jesus’ sacrifice because we are accused by Protestants for "re-sacrificing" Jesus at the mass. If you can’t answer the question - just say so. 🤷

Your post was nothing more than a long dance around the issues I addressed.

Please go back to the post and addresss the points I made to rebut your earlier arguments. We were talking about how a Christian - a true believer can fall back into sin and be lost. I have provided you with ample Scriptural evidence to back this up and you have offered nothing more than convoluted opinions.
There is coming a time where God will no longer strive with man in this “time box” we are in. Those in Christ will live in eternity, w/o time or endless time and those who are not in Christ will live in eternity separated from God with an eternity of accusing conscience.

I know exactly where you were going with the timeless or eternity of God, but I am not willing to play any games when it comes to the Lord’s Supper. You either accept what the bible says or you don’t; it is not very difficult to understand how Paul explained it and see how the church in Acts understood, which is exactly as Paul stated. I can do no more than and show you where it is; after that it is between you and God.

Yes Rocket, we are so thankful for the actual grace of God which brought us to the foot of the cross, And as Catholics we are ever thankful for the sanctifying grace which he gives to:harp: us through his Spirit filled sacraments. Such Power! What an Ausome God we have.

He promises his Body and Blood .

The meaning of the multiplication of the loaves, Mt, 14,13-21;mk6,32-44; Lk 9, 10-17; Jn6,1-15

The discourse in the synagogue of Capernaum, Jn6, 22.71

The Last Supper according to Matthew, 26, 26-29

The last Supper according to Mark,14, 22-25

The Last Supper according to Luke,22, 15-20

The Last Supper according to Paul, 1Cor 11 23-34

Those who eat the this bread and drink this wine will never hunger, Jn6, 34

Eternal life will be given to those who receive the Eucharist, Jn 6, 53

Many found this promise of Jesus “a hard saying”,Jn, 6-60

The Eucharist is memorial and promise, Mk, 14, 25; Lk, 22,15

The Eucharist is a sign of Christ’s redemptive death, Mt, 26,27; Mk,14, 24

Humility and charity are a prerequisite for the Eucharist, Jn, 13,2-20;

The Holy Eucharist, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ is at the center of our Christian worship and life. He who endures to the end will be saved.:heaven::harp:Carlan

2 Peter 2:20-22
For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

A person who loses his salvation after he has received it is worse off than if he had never received salvation in the first place. What happens to unbelievers?

2 Thessalonians 1:7-9
when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction

Salvation is a life-long process, not a one-time event.

1 Peter 5:8-9
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

If you allow yourself to be devoured by Satan after you are saved, then you are no longer saved. You belong to him instead.

Redemption is what Jesus did on the cross.
He PAID for us with his sacrifice.

Salvation is a process by which we are sanctified, only because of what Jesus did for us. We’re not saved until we have finished the race. I have provided ample Scriptural evidence for this - ad nauseam.

Whereas Redemption is a one-time slam-dunk, Salvation is not. It is a process as the Scriptures tell us in no uncertain terms.

Hope that helps.
You know like:
Romans 8:29-30
29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined {to become} conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. ---- This is God’s view of the redeemed and saved in Christ.

Php 1:6
{For I am} confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. — This is God’s view of Salvation in mans little time box.

Galatians 3:13-14
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us–for it is written, “CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE”-- 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. — What is the curse of the law? Sin. What are we saved from? Sin. Who are the redeemed? Christian or non-Christian? Who are the saved in Christ? Christian or non-Christian? What is the major difference between redemption and Salvation from God’s perspective?

Do you know what the Promise of the Spirit is that Paul is referring?

If you have any doubts remaining, which I am positive you do, just as it is written.
Philippians 1:27-30
27 Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 in no way alarmed by {your} opponents–which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that {too,} from God. 29 For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, 30 experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear {to be} in me.

AND

Eph 4:30
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

AND

Ephesians 1:5-9
In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us. *** In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, ***according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him

Until one is able to 100% deny self; their will be no salvation for those that are unable because of stubborn pride in self.

Huh?
Are you agreeing or disagreeing with my statement on redemption and salvation?
You are confused because you do not see the perspectives. From eternity (As God has purposed) it is already a done deal for the redeemed in Christ. From the human perspective, because of time, we are saved, being saved and will be saved. See the paradox?

Here is a third for your mind to discern.

Phil.1:6
{For I am} confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. — God’s eternal perspective written in our time perspective - a little addition to the paradox.

It is my belief, that those who believe we can lose salvation, can only see things from the human perspective. Which there could be several reasons for this.

yeah man! That would like one missing the point of the cross. 👍
I beg your pardon, Tim, what are you trying to say with that comment, Here, read the post again.

Those He predestined are saved, called, justified, and glorified. However, not all those who were called were also predestined Matthew 22:14. Not all those who were justified were also predestined Hebrews 10:26-27.

If you sin after you are justified/saved (come to the knowledge of the truth), then you are no longer saved, but will face the wrath of God instead.
Php 1:6

God will perfect a good work in you as long as you do not defile your temple with sin and make Him leave your soul because of your sin 1 Corinthians 3:16-18. The Holy Spirit cannot live in a temple defiled with sin.
Redemption usually refers to mankind collectively, 1 Timothy 2:5-7 whereas salvation usually refers to the individual man.

Mark 16:16
He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

“Believes” means to obey. If you do not obey Him, then you are called an “unbeliever.”

Hebrews 3:17-19
Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Do you know what the Promise of the Spirit is that Paul is referring?
Yes, the promise of the Holy Spirit is eternal life if you are first found worthy and are approved for the crown of eternal life. You only inherit the promise if you remain diligent and obey God’s commandments until you die. By doing this you prove that you love Jesus. He only saves those who love Him (those who keep His commandments) John 14:21.

James 1:12
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Hebrews 6:11-12
And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

to be continued…

Paul is speaking to them as if they already are going to inherit eternal life. He really has no idea whether they all will be saved or not. It is like a pep talk. He is assuming that they will remain faithful until the end of their lives. He addresses them as saints, but he also says that these saints are **faithful **to Jesus’ gospel.

Ephesian 1:1
To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus:

If they do not remain faithful (if thy do not continue in the faith Acts 14:21-22) until death, then they will not inherit eternal life.
Until one is able to 100% deny self; their will be no salvation for those that are unable because of stubborn pride in self.
This is the “perfection” we Christians seek James 2:22.

Romans 3:20
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Paul is speaking of the Old Covenant, not the New Covenant.
