For those who want a more casual, un-noticed look, how about just a bandana folded in half “kerchief” style and tied underneath the hair at the back. (NOT underneath the chin at the front if you are under the age of 80!

) I first saw this style on pretty girls in Finland and thought it looked so cool that I copied it…long before I started wearing a headcovering in Mass.
Which was about six months ago BTW. I first attended a TLM about 12 months ago but did not immediately start veiling. It is not complusory at our TLM and is left up to each lady to decide if she wishes to cover or not. I wanted to be sure of my reasons for doing so and not just follow the crowd blindly. When I felt ready I bought a piece of vintage style crocheted lace from a material shop and just cut out a big triangle “kerchief” style. Took me about 30 seconds as it didn’t need edging. I tie it on just like a bandana under my hair at the back. It doesn’t cover all my hair as it is long, but covers most of it. I can’t wear the traditional kind of mantilla that is just draped over the head 'cos I am usually wreslting one (or all!) of our three wild lads.

I would like to buy one for those blissful times when I am able to go to Mass by myself. They are just so beautiful. The ladies look so serene and prayerful sitting there in them - they inspire me.
I wear a covering to both the TLM and the Novus Ordo. I did feel very conspicuious at the NO at first but I soon got used to it and realised that no one was looking at me anyway.

Well I do catch my DH sneaking peaks at me

and he compliments me about 50 times every time I cover my head. I don’t really get why he loves it so much lol! I wear it only to show my humility before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and for no one else. But I like that he likes it.
Oh wait, someone else did notice it last week. I heard a little voice call out “Hat!” and someone pulled my covering off my head! It turned out to be my own little 20 month old angel, in Daddy’s arms, at the perfect height to sabotage Mummy’s efforts to look prayerful and serene.

It’s funny…I gasped when he pulled it off…I felt so…naked! The covering is just part of my preparation to receive Holy Communion now. I don’t feel “right” walking into a Catholic church without it. It is a very, very humbling experience to cover one’s head. I simply cannot understand those who think that a woman would do so with a 'holier than thou" attitude. The act of covering one’s head is the very opposite I would think.
Lots of lovely head coverings here at this Protestant site:
