In the case of a mixed marriage, it is the Catholic who makes the vow to the Church that they will raise the children as Catholics, not the non-Catholic spouse. It is your responsibility to make sure to the best of your ability that you teach them their Catholic faith.

On another note, the Catholic marriage vows do not include as part of the vows the wife says “I promise to obey”. These words are included in protestant vows not the vows in the Catholic wedding ceremony.

It seems, from what I have gathered on these forums, that the Catholic view of wifely submission and the Protestant view differ.

I hear more about balance on these forums and the man’s role to respect and love his wife then I did on Protestant forums.
 
You sound as if you have had some bad experiences in this regard, but what you write is not true of all women.
Most however. Right or wrong, times have changed from 50 yrs ago.

It has been almost 8 years since I said my vows, but I’m pretty sure that I (as a non-Catholic at the time) made a promise to raise any future children as Catholics. But now you have me wondering…
