Can you point out the passage of Vatican II that changed or addressed head coverings?

Many such practices in the Church today are not from Vat II, but the spirit of Vat II.
What I mean, many of the changes that the laity wonder where it came from are told the catch all Vatican II. when actually Vatican II never addressed those practices the laity and clergy wonder about. Vat II has been a cover to change things and add things that probably should not have been added or changes. Head coverings, the facing of the Priest during Mass, makeup of altar servers, Eucharistic ministers. To cite a few.

Now:popcorn:

No I can’t.I’ve never read Vatican 2.But IMO such a wide spread use of not wearing head coverings must have been written in somewhere.Like a previous poster said in the 50;s it was unspeakable to come to Church with your head laid bare. The Church doesn’t operate like you’re suggesting.Someone doesn/t just break a rule and everybody follows and then it becomes accepted.

I read that it was left out if the cannon because of the Church not wanting to deal with the feminists. It is in scripture that women should wear head coverings. I for one would wear one. I think it’s beautiful!
Don’t believe everything you read.if its importantt do a little research.Perhaps ask a priest.See what you’ve done. Now the poster below thinks that the Church is afraid of upsetting Feminists and he correlating it with some Church’s don’t condemn homosexuality because they are afraid of upsetting them.

Hmmm…last I knew reading was research.
Isn’t this the place to come for answers?

so that article which you said you got you’re information is not reliable. In that case maybe there was a rule stating that women no longer had to wear head coverings. And the part about the reason doing with feminist is not to be taken as accurate nor the reasons for priests not speaking out against homosexuality.

Come to think of it Valentino, in my 38 years of being a Catholic I have NEVER EVER heard a homily against homosexuality, premarital sex, or ABC. Perhaps they ARE afraid of upsetting people.

Truly…I don’t want this subject to be about homosexuality, ABC, or anything else other than headcovering. Thank you!!

Good example of why the linked sited is rated “red”

DANGER (Red Light)
The site tends toward disobedience to ecclesiastical authority, schism or heresy. There is repeated emphasis on views which contradict or undermine either the teachings of the Church or her disciplinary authority.

Perhaps that may be the case for the site as a whole - but that particular article is very good, and has been used as a reference here on CAF for a very long time by many.

The article is a subjective load of hogwash. With calumny thrown in for effect. Any proof that Msgr. Bugnini was a Freemason?

Its a he said, he said smear against the Bishops. Any proof the that the Code of Canon Law was changed to avoid the wrath of the feminists? That is laughable.

When the teaching authority of the Church tells us the law is still in effect, I suspect that all faithful Catholics will comply.

Until that time, quit spreading tall tales.

Thank you, Centurionguard and thank you, Cardinal Burke.

Personal Piety

“While it is absolutely clear to me that there is no canonical or moral obligation for women to wear a head-covering in Church, women are certainly free to do so as a matter of personal devotion. They should, however, see it as a sign of subordination to God, as that better suits the liturgical context. Those who wear a covering or veil, and those who don’t, should not judge the motives of the other, but leave each woman free in a matter that is clearly not of obligation.”

With all due respect to Cardinal Burke he applies the American practice) to the whole world.

I grown up on that way, that the head covering became competition who wears the fanciest one, and consequently the requirement was dropped. The legal principle was that law w/o sanction is advisory only, and to wear head-covering was not sanctioned by any way in the Canon Law.

In the late forties and fifties the practice was like now in many TLM masses: 20-30% of the women had something on their head, the rest did not.

The true religion is in the hearts, not in the clothes.

i can’t speak for anyone else but the sin of homosexuality has beeen mentioned quite a bit in my church from the pulpit. Not whole sermons but references to it.I believe the time has come when priests shoould speak more on such issues. Its beccoming to widespread and Catholic supported to be ignored.

At my parish, I serve at the latin mass. this is really the only time I see women with head coverings, and only about half of them wear them anyway.

Very few women where I have attended Mass cover with any type of headcovering but I would have no issue returning to it becoming mandatory along with much better clothes worn by both males and females.
