I doubt they would turn away anyone who was not disruptive.
I was not disruptive, I hadn’t eaten in 4 days, I didn’t have enough energy to even raise my voice. They were a little sympathetic, they simply didn’t want me in either restroom/changing room. Once I found a government run shelter, I had no issues, no one complained about me being ‘disruptive’. Nothing at all.

To the religious shelters, being transsexual was disruptive, period, it didn’t matter one’s actions, merely being that was ‘disruptive’. Is the only way I can combine your sentence with what I experienced. There was a case in the south where a transsexual froze to death on the steps of a shelter, because they hadn’t let her in, it’s not exactly uncommon.

One thing I don’t understand, is why is the GOP so in favor of tort reform. Lawyers are small business men, you will be destroying their business by limiting their profits. It will be an artificial cap on a market system! 😉

Not to mention no punishment for malpractice.

Most of the time the “punishment” is not proportional to the “crime.” Sometimes people make mistakes. Should they have everything they own taken away? Because someone was in pain for a week and couldn’t work for that week do they deserve 10 million dollars? Malpractice has been extended to cover “I don’t like the results, regardless of whether or not I was warned it could happen.” Pain and suffering payments are getting ridiculous.

You seem to be perfectly fine with people getting sick and not being able to pay their bills and having everything taken away.

When you amputate the incorrect leg, you have it coming.

There is nothing wrong with sueing the pants off somone who cut’s off the wrong leg as aspawloski4th stated; there shouldn’t be caps for gross negligence. Where the problem lies is people becoming instant millionaires b/c they experienced a complication they were told about before the surgery (like a nicked ureter for a hysterectomy) or the doctor couldn’t perform a miracle.

You mean like car insurance companies who keep trying to undercut each other? If companies are gouging prices other companies will come in and undercut. That is the free market and how it works when government does not get involved.

Yes they need to get insurance but they need to pay for it and they need to work and not be a burden on the ecconomy. The answer is not to force others to pick up the slack for the leaches.
Yes, and all companies are saints, never cheat putting substandard products in the market nor use their big pockets to influence the government in order to get subsidies because these products can’t compete in the world market, or any other number of monetary benefit in order to pay a bigger dividend at the end of the year. These are the same companies that pay just living salaries. But, complain when the government wants to increase the outrageously low minimum salary.

These people that make $7.25 an hour, with no insurance subsidy on the part of their employers, that work two jobs to be able to eat for a the entire month. These arethe ones that are going to buy health insurance. These people are the base, the feet on which all of us stand, and I feel in mi heart that that is wrong.

I have to say, many companies do care for their employees. Unfortunately, we are only a lucky few that work in one of those.

I used to think very much like you, until I began getting involved with my Church in doing charity work. Not the charity of only putting your envelope in the banquet every Sunday, the kind you talk, touch, laugh, and cry charity work. This opened my eyes.

I apologize if my opposition to free market only for the sake of free market, with no other consideration than the god money, is not agreeable.

May God Bless you,

You do realize the majority of people who are earn minimum wage are in their teens through late 20’s, right? Do you also realize minimum wage was never meant for someone to support a family on, just to give young people a base wage for when they first get a job?

people should not be leaching off of others especially not through the government. These bogus or exagerated law suits are another example of people trying to exploit others.

And how would they have even known your “condition”?

Money is nothing more than a mechanism for packaging effort. It is just an exchangeable token representingtime away from family, years of education, stressfull and dangerous work, and raw sweat. To take that money away from them with out their approval is in many ways a violation of them as a human and essentially retro active forced labor. Keep in mind we are all called to charity, not the forcefull redistribution of resources you are advocating.

These lawsuits are people taking money they don’t deserve. Sometime there is a basis for it, like if a doctor does cut off the wrong leg. But like wabrams said, this isn’t the caps we’re talking about. Complications you knew could happen shouldn’t be the basis for suing your doctor. And really, if your leg is cut off, besides having all your medical bills paid and getting what you would have gotten if you hadn’t lost your job, someone still needs 10 million more?

It was before I had regular hormone treatments of any kind, my natural state is neutral, extremely androgynous. Some people could take me for a man or a woman. My voice was and is still is rather androgynous, I am confusing, they dont’t know where to house me so they housed me nowhere.

One semester is all it takes.

Seemed like they over covered it when I was in school and my kids are both getting this addressed in education. What specific school does not include it in their cirriculum?

If someone does not know how to eat properly, They probably should have court appointed supervision.
I do not know what they teach today, as my children are homeschooled. However, when I was in school, they did not require health ed or home ec.

And while people may tell a kid in a classroom for 1/24th of his education that they need to eat fruits and vegetables instead of mac and cheese, it doesn’t explain how to prepare different types of food, which is what home ec did.

It still seems very basic. In one hour you can explain that what you eat effects your health. After that you can read cook books and other references which are very available at no cost. If someone can’t figur the rest out on their own then they need supervision. Further most everyone else gets several semesters of health classes, has parrents who have a responsibility to teach them, and mass media pushing a health lifestyle. There is no reason to undermine the entire American medical system because a few people refuse to eat right.

Some are, especially during summer, and in the suburbs. But they are not the majority.

God Bless you,

I don’t know; I’m a huge proponent of tort reform, but I don’t have a problem hosing a doctor for doing the wrong surgery.
