What are you disagreeing with? You proved my points. The Church doesn’t listen to the laity that much; like you say, the Magesterium is comprised of men who make up/interpret the doctrine. Are they asking for any (name removed by moderator)ut? No, not that I’m aware of. Nobody says they have to change anything based on laity (name removed by moderator)ut, but do they seek the (name removed by moderator)ut and listen to the reasoning given?
I am confused on why you think it necessary that they get the (name removed by moderator)ut of the laity? I want to be led by the truth that is constant (the church) not by societal demands which flux continuously. That would tend to make the church driven by our worldly nature, not our spiritual one. They differ and are at odds with each other.

I think the consistency of the church is important. We need to be led and conform to Christ, not demand the church conform to us.

The masses are not always right, sadly enough. The correct path is often the difficult path and many times the unpopular one.

Perhaps sometimes, our church leadership may not be right either. Many of our own priests/theologians feel some change should be considered. However, we continue with business as usual. In the meantime, our priest population is dwindling, as well as church attendence.

Don’t get me wrong, I approve of the vast majority of what being a Catholic stands for. I’ve been a Catholic since birth, was an alter boy, attended Catholic school, and considered briefly the priesthood. However, I see some troubling things within the Church, yet I see no effective correction action taking place.

This “I’m a better Catholic than you and I’m going to show you” bit is growing old. You sound like a very devout Catholic who sticks to the “letter of law” no matter what. Nothing wrong with that. I’m a Catholic, who the vast majority of time, also follows Catholic doctrine. However, depending upon the situation, I may pause, seek God’s guidance, and possibly depart from that doctrine, if warranted. I also may question doctrine that seems unsound, nothing wrong with that IMO.
I’m not going to change your outlook and you are not going to change mine.
Let’s stop this little verbal duel. I’m surprised the moderator hasn’t stepped in already.

Mike,
I think you need to cut setter a little slack here. Setter has not been voicing his own opinions…he’s been telling you what the Church clearly teaches. You decide that there are times that you can depart from doctrine “when warranted.”

Mike, you are free to disagree on anything the Church teaches, but as a Catholic you are asked to obey. If you choose not to, its not anything Setter or anyone else will be in a position to judge you on. Thats between you and Christ.

I will tell you, however, that Setter has clearly shown two viable ways in this scenario that a mother’s life can be protected. Because someone might find it difficult is besides the point. Taking on the Cross is difficult. Its what we’re called to do. Even if 99 % of Catholics disobey this teaching means nothing other than ignorance or willful disobedience. The problem is, those who are not ignorant and willfully disobey are deciding they know best. That is a failing of all of us at times. We think we know whats best for us, regardless of what Christ says.
May God bless you!
