It has been agreed at the Commonwealth summit in Australia that British Royals will be able to marry Catholics and not lose their place in the line of succession. To remove the last British discrimination against Catholics we now need it to be permitted for Catholics to inherit the Throne.

This indicates to me that all the Church is interested in is power. I believe it to be better than that…

If you ask the Church of England who is its head it will answer Jesus Christ. The British Monarch has the honorary titles of Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England. The Monarch has a close relationship of the CofE but has no actual authority over the CofE.

Unification of the CofE with Rome would be one solution that would allow a Catholic to be the Monarch. Another solution would be the disestablishment of the CofE.

I’m not comparing NK to UK. Just the idea that lineage is a poor method to choose one’s leaders.
Lineage keeps political stability and legitimacy. It also is a great tradition,

Perhaps you don’t like monarchy…

Yes, rather than having a head of state who is generally approved of by the population (round about 80%), what the UK needs is a Presidential system like that of the US or France, where at least half the population tends to loathe whoever is doing the job currently, or the kind of pensioned-off Party hack you get in systems like that of Germany or Italy to ‘cut ribbons’ and turn up when there’s some disaster.

On the other hand, EIIR does the ‘ribbon-cutting and turning up at disasters’ job pretty well, I’d say and, after all, we do have Prime Ministers to do the ‘being loathed by at least half the population’ job.

Is there a news release?

Is there a news release?
Here’s one. You need to look through most of them carefully: the ‘biggest’ news in each one is that male and female heirs are going to be given equal rights to succession as opposed to male primogeniture.

Wow! I’m thrilled by this update that future British monarchs will be allowed to marry Catholics. :clapping: It’s definately a step in the right direction. Who knows? Maybe in our life time we’ll see the anti-Catholic laws lifted entirely so that a reigning monarch can also be a practicing Catholic. It would be a sticky operation, but with God all things are possible!

God Bless,
Pearl of Tyburn :tiphat:

Monarchs are the head of the C of E. In order for a Catholic to marry a member of the Royal Family they would have to marry in an Anglican church and agree raise their children in the C of E. How would they get a dispensation for that?

Maybe England is shaping up to be the one protestant country that converts to the true faith, and leads Europe back to the faith during the time of crisis.
Don’t hold your breath on it. In the modern age, people think it’s silly not to have a royal marry a Catholic, as well as have the first-born daughter be Queen.

Well, at least that’s not something to be too worried about for a couple of decades, (until William’s eldest is looking for a spouse).

My guess is you couldnt

My understanding to get married in the Catholic church there must be good reason to believe the children will be raised Catholic… hence dispensation would not be granted.

I’m curious about the pronunciation of ‘taisoeach’…I know that it’s a Gaelic word. I’ve never heard it said, on the ‘telly’ in England or on the radio (I listen to the BBC World News Service at night).
Tee-shuck.

Greetings to those posting and or reading this thread,

Good for Britain. Now can a Catholic reign is the next step to consider?

God Bless.
