I feel sad generally, it has always been that way but recently when I think about the faith, I get really upset. It used to be bitterness, which was much better imo. Now it’s a very distracting feeling and I feel very uncomfortable when I see happy catholics.

I’ve been trying to go for confession for months but it has always failed. I think I made a thread about that before. It’s like God’s preventing me for a reason but I don’t even know what.

I don’t even know what I’m asking here. Maybe if anyone is in the same boat as I am?

Why are you upset? What specifically is bothering you?

is it some unbelief in a basic principle, or just feeling unhappy and like you don’t fit in at your church?

(I have had the latter in the past. Not the former though.)

You need to speak with a Priest about what is bothering you with your faith. God bless.

The longer we wallow in sin, the more difficult it is to go to Confession. Our will is weakened, our conscience is darkened, and the excuses become easier.

If your boss told you that there is a meeting on Tuesday, attendance is mandatory or you will be fired, you will pull yourself to that meeting come hell or high water.

Confession is more important than a work meeting. Make an appointment with Father for his first available appointment. Go to that appointment. If you do not have transportation, ask him to come to your home.

Call the parish office and ask if there are any nearby penance services this week. That is another way to go to Confession and be able to confess to a different priest if you are ashamed.

Just do it.

I genuinely don’t know the specifics now. There are some areas definitely, but I also know that nothing can be said or done for me to accept it. Right now it’s just something I can’t describe

I have gone to the services. Usually right before I could confess, they would say times up and I should try again later. For example today, I went to all of the openings in my parish and I had no luck. I’m obviously going to try again soon but meh. It’s exhausting after a while. It’s not a matter of whether I’m ashamed, I want to get it over with before Christmas

Make an appointment. People make appointments for confession all of the time. It is a very normal request.

Yes I agree make an appointment.
My Faith I find is much stronger in the state of Grace than that of sin!

God wants you to get to Confession. He absolutely wants you to be healed and set free.

The Accuser does not. He wants to keep you from the peace that Jesus offers in Confession.

I would make it the number one priority of my life to get there, especially when it is that difficult! If you still can’t, call your priest.

He will help you.

You will be so happy when you are free! It makes a huge difference for me.

Sorry to hear that, but rest assured that what you’re experiencing is not uncommon. A single confession may change everything, or it may not. I think if you keep at it, establish a regular confession interval and stick to it, you’ll see improvement over time. I can’t guarantee that, but you already know what happens in the absence of confession so why not give it a try and persevere?

Praying for you 🙏

I have been going for it quite regularly actually, but I felt like things have gotten worse around that time. I think I was a lot happier spiritually when I was ignorant

In the long run, you won’t be. 😐

I once went through a period of being overwhelmed spiritually. Turns out I was confessing too often and had chosen my confessor poorly. (It’s a really long story.) I reduced the frequency of my confessions and found a new confessor. Things improved. We don’t always get it right the first time.

I just went today…nothing really changed 😶
Don’t give up!

Sometimes in the spiritual life it takes an act of faith. But it goes a little deeper each time. I don’t know if this applies to you, and I’m sorry if it doesn’t, but it feels right so I’ll just put it out there just in case.

At first when you act on faith there is a lot of spiritual consolation. The “acting on faith” was the step towards deeper faith. It encourages us to keep acting on faith, trusting in the Lord. But then we begin to rely on the consolation.

As we progress in faith, that consolation is at times not palpable—and for our experience it seems as if it is withheld. This is so that we are still acting on faith, not acting on a sort of reward system. If we stay faithful in spite of the ”dryness,” then our faithfulness is based on our love for God and our trust in Him, not on the rewards we get for doing so.

But He is never outdone in generosity, and the more difficult the act of faith is, the greater the consolation will be when it comes!

First comes tribulation, then comes grace!

It is a lot like any friendship. If I do things for you because you do things for me, but stop doing things for you the first time you didn’t do it for me, what is the friendship based on?

I am not saying that is what you are doing! It is just how I experienced the abandonment you appear to be experiencing.

I had to keep going to prayer, saying I didn’t know what I was doing or why, but I believed His promises so I know He is really there. And I’ll wait for Him.

My spiritual director taught me a prayer for those times.

Breathe in, “Fiat.”
Breathe out, “Magnificat.”

Breathe in, “Let it be done to me according to your word.”

Breathe out, “The almighty has done Great things for me, and Holy is His name.”

Basically when it got hard, when the dryness was too bleak, it became:

Breathe in, “Help me, please!”
Breathe out, “Holy is his name, no matter what!”

St. Teresa of Avila said, “First comes tribulation, then comes grace.”

Don’t give up. He will never give up on you.

This talk helped me with similar feelings.

I become self preoccupied due to certain challenges. I also become sad when the faith appears easy to others. That’s envy.
