When I started drumming Lars was my biggest influence (was ignorant to what good drumming is) so any cover of any Metallica song always interests me, I’ll have to check that out.

They also did a cover of Battery, along with a video, so you can actually see them singing, which adds to the experience:

They do still have a drummer, so they’re not 100% a capella, but all the guitar, bass, keyboard parts (including solos) are done vocally (though, I’m sure, with some effects for the solos).

I was wondering, after listening to a nun, Is heavy metal a sin or wrong to listen to, does it ever become a mortal sin?..
What if the lyrics are less then godly in certain songs, is it still a sin to listen to it yet ignore the lyrics(I do only mean one or two songs)?
Can some one explain the whole view???

Please allow me to remind you of another post you made regarding Marilyn Manson…

Think Ozzie Osbourne. He’s pretty much the same type of entertainer but I don’t think he’s bitten of a live birds head yet like Ozzie did if anyone remembers. Ok I just dated myself . Marilyn is fairly harmless he’s more about showmanship sort of like KISS meets Madonna, meets Ozzie. His shows tend toward the dark side of all that. I’m not sure on the sexual end I’ve never seen him do anything but then again I only like a few of his songs.

There are so many things wrong and contradictory between these two that I don’t know where to begin.

Second… you compared Manson to Ozzy and called him fairly harmless but you don’t think Black Sabbath would not be ok… do you not realize that Ozzy pretty much IS/WAS Black Sabbath???

Third I’m sorry but one most ignorant things I’ve ever seen is “Common sense will usually tell if not the name of the song.” You honestly believe you can tell by the name of a song whether or not that song is evil/sinful? “Choke Sermon” is the title of a real song… tell me what you think it’s about and whether or not it’s sinful. My guess is that you see the words and see a negative word in front of the word sermon and immediately assume it’s bad. The band is Lamb of God and the lyrics are mostly written by Randy Blythe. While he uses a lot of religious references as he grew up in a Baptist environment and paid attention in Sunday School they are not a religious or anti-religious band. Most of their lyrics (while viewed as evil by those who don’t know better) are actually metaphors for their political views. Sadly some people seem to lack the ability to interpret things and want to take them at face value. The same band wrote a song that in context sounds like it’s condemning Judas which isn’t necessarily bad but in reality the intent isn’t a biblical message but just a song about betrayal in general however that example is used because it’s familiar to the majority of the world.

I’m still very much in the learning process of converting to Catholicism so you won’t see me spouting off about what a specific verse means or anything to that effect. I would ask that you not make such uneducated statements about modern music because as a fan and musician it’s fairly insulting that you would make such assumptions with no real knowledge outside of what I would guess came from a quick and random google search.

I agree with you that you absolutely cannot judge a metal song by the song title. Metal guys often intentionally come up with provocative song titles that are quite the opposite of what the song is really about. IMO, some of the worst offenders for this are Christian metal bands. Song titles like “Human Sacrifice”, “Fill this Place with Blood”, “Rock the Hell Out of You” can seem a bit questionable at first glance.

The only time anything similiar happened was someone threw a real bat on stage at one time that he bit into thinking it was fake as he did periodically. Please provide proof that any of this happened with him intending to eat live animals on a regular basis. Please show me the interview in which he stated that he habitually bites the heads off animals.

Since you said that you like some of Marilyn Manson’s songs tell me… based on the title alone what would you think “The Beautiful People” is about? Certainly not hate… and it would certainly not have any allusions to anything anti-Christian… it’s obviously about supermodels or something right? He has an album title called Antichrist Superstar… but you like some of his music… how do you justify this when by your own logic he is clearly anti-christian??? I have always avoided bands with sacriligeous names like “Black Sabbath,” but I will acknowledge that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are incapable of making a morally/spiritually neutral or even positive song. I just have decided to avoid them for myself and if I were to ever have kids that would be off-limits because of all the gray areas. As far as Marilyn Manson goes, I remember back in the '90s seeing his video “Long Hard Road out of Hell.” I was agnostic at the time but even then I would usually change the channel whenever it came on. Call me ignorant if you want but I really believe it was the work of the Devil.

That website is notoriously bad for their anti-catholicism and conspiracy theories. For example, they have some lovely articles such as “Satanism in the Vatican” and “The Pope is the Vicar of Hell”.

Ahhh… well being new to the faith that is certianly news to me but duly noted… however at least some of the info contained in that particular article appears to be fairly acurate, especially if you check out any video interviews of him on youtube… I’d post them but as I’m at work youtube is forbidden by surfcontrol… but the pics of him with Anton LaVey (founder of the Church of Satan) certainly support him being a Satanist as well.

However for anyone who wants definitive proof go to youtube.com and search “Marilyn Manson Satanist” you will see videos of him in which he openly admits to interviewers that he is a Satanist and describes his view of the faith.

I don’t feel the urge to dig up proof but I have heard of it several times and seen footage on MTV back maybe 10 years agp. It was in an MTV Documentary about Ozzie. The news media were shocked of course and once he realized the shock value got him publicity he did is several more times a few of which were well documented. Mostly at concerts from what I remember.

I have nothing against Ozzie in fact I used to watch his show on MTV. Marilyn Manson is a bit weird but he puts on a show like Ozzie. In any case I just stated my opinion which seems to irritate you since it doesn’t concur with yours but that’s your beef not mine.

It’s not opinion. you’ve provided absolutely no sound reasoning as to how you can think that.

I’m familiar with that quote of Ghandi’s as well… I am well aware that as intelligent as I may be I can very easily be wrong… but you have yet to show me that. If you would, I would gladly admit to it.

Depends on what kind of metal you like. As a fan of Slayer and Lamb of God and as a drummer let me tell you there are no Christian metal bands that compare. The majority of the world is Christian… however the most successful metal bands are not and it’s not because of these crazy rebellious teenagers… it’s because no Christian metal band rocks as hard.
