Just learned my sister and BIL entered the HRM from being involved with non-denominational Christian churches for years. My sister was baptized Catholic and raised Catholic but left the church back in the 70s. I don’t know much about this HRM other than what I found searching on the internet. I know for example, they don’t like using the word Jesus, and the don’t celebrate Easter or Christmas, but feast days, the Jewish Sabbath, etc. The HRM writing and some videos at this website are very anti-Catholic bulldozerfaith.com. The leader of that website engaged me on my sisters Facebook page after I commented on a slide of his referencing something about seeking Truth. I told him he was a heretic and his movement heresy.

Does anybody have experience with this movement and do we use standard apologetic strategies with them? They’re not fully Christian and not fully Jewish. And they don’t consider themselves Protestants either. Thanks.

  1. You might view Michael rood on utube and the teaching on baptism . it is the Jewish understanding of that tradition

Debating and arguing will not win converts. Prayers, acts of charity, and fasting are far more effective.

I hear you. I always pray for them and others and live my faith through love and acts of charity. However, when my faith is attacked and questioned by the HRM (as it was on Facebook) and others, we must be prepared to defend it. It’s not about winning and arguing but speaking and defending the Truth in love! Amen!

Hebrew roots people tend to value Jewish roots more than Christian roots. It’s a perspective which relies on modern Pharisaical Judaism in an attempt to recreate the Christianity of the Apostles and so they believe they are warranted in doing away with everything Christian.

In my experience they Hebrew roots do not respect Church history, they think it an abomination and so the need to return to original Jewish practices of Jesus and the Apostles. If you are to engage them I would recommend having much of the New Testament at hand, especially Galatians, that as a Christian you do not need to follow all the aspects of the Old Covenant law.

I think’s also good to familiarise yourself with ante Nicene Christianity as well, since Hebrew roots will attack the Church fathers of that period as Paganizing the Church. There are some Hebrew roots who believe the New Testament was written in Hebrew originally and not Greek, trying to talk with them is almost useless in my experience.

Good advice all around, especially the use of Galatians. Also in my research I’ve found many resources on the early church fathers and how the NT was put together. (See the Apologetics Scripture section of these forums). Sometimes I wonder how much time and energy these new movements like HRM, put forth to recreate the wheel (so to speak). There is overwhelming evidence contrary to what they teach and profess. I wouldn’t mind it so much if they only stuck to defending their beliefs, but in their efforts to validate their movement, they feel required to attack mainline Christianity and Catholocism in particular. Thank you!

Well, I don’t know the context of the discussion, but that seems unnecessary. Just as many are saying the movement attacks Catholicism (I don’t know anything about it), such words attack their faith and therefore will not lead to more understanding and dialogue.
