Hello,
I am here mainly because I was divorced several years ago and would like to obtain an annulment. I left my husband, who was not very pleasant, basically from the day we married. I married a man who was very nice and pleasant, and once we were married he turned into a controlling bully. I left him after he threw our (then) 6 year old daughter into the wall for telling Daddy to stop yelling at Mommy. I would not let him near her again, so he then strangled me and threw me into the dresser in my daughter’s room. My Youngest daughter told our day care provider that “Daddy pushed Mommy & her Sister“which prompted me to take action. (She was a mandatory reporter! I really had to take some sort of action!)
I asked ex husband to get help. He attended 4 sessions with anger management councilor and declared he was healed, although his first reaction to me and the children each night after healing was “Shut Up, and Get away from me!”. And this was his constant reaction to our children welcoming him home each night.
I am also from one of the many parishes that have been closed, so my parish priest is not available to me. My children do participate in CCD at a local parish, but I haven’t joined. I am torn… my former parish is still in vigil, the church I attend is the closest to my home (but in another town) and the remaining parish in my town has not been very welcoming to those of us from the closed parish (although I hear that there will be a new pastor soon).
I guess another question I have is… Do I need to belong to a parish in order to apply for an annulment?

I suggest you call the Tribunal, at the Diocesan Offices, and ask them who you should talk to. You need someone familiar with the Tribunal process, and unfortunately not all are.

Note that in the annulment process only conditions existing at the time of the putative marriage are relevant. What happened later is significant only to the extent that it proves conditions existing at the time of the marriage. However, it is best to give them the whole story and let them sift out what is significant.

Hello;

I was moved after reading your post.

My prayers for both you and your children. Although I am unable to provide you with any advice I did want you to know you and your children will be in my prayers.

“Give me a sign or your favor: make my enemies see, to their confusion, that you, Lord, help and comfort me” Psalm 86:17

Blessings & Peace for you and your family.:signofcross:

You already do belong to a parish. When your old parish was closed, your geographical area would have been absorbed into a new parish. If you want to register at the parish in the other town that you are attending now-- you are free to do so!

You are a Catholic, and as such have a right to petition for a decree of nullity. You should make an appointment with one of the parish priests and get the paperwork started.

And, as to a parish not making you feel welcome-- well, don’t let that keep you away from God! It doesn’t really matter if the people are nice or not, ultimately. Perhaps after you get to know some people that will change.

At any rate, go to one of the priests and start the process.
