ah, yes, a smart 12 year old - talk to you in 20 years.
bye
She simply asked was the bible a reliable source of info. to base your life and thinking on.

That was a reasonable question.

The answer is no, it is not. It is a book full of myth and fairy tales. Written by men 2000 years ago that believed the earth was flat.

It is amazing that some people believe these men got it all right, but all of our science and technology is all wrong.

Guess what it goes the other way as well the Atheist can not prove that there is no God.
I am not making a claim, you are. The burden of proof is on you.
As for a shred of evidence to there being A God and Jesus as his son. they nailed him to a Cross buried him and he still got up and walked around for forty days after wards we have eye wittiness testimony to it.
The only eyewitness testimony you have to this is in the bible. You cannot use the bible to validate the bible.

Outside of the bible you will not find one word written about Jesus Christ, the son of god, miracle worker.

You will not find one word written about this man until no sooner that 20 years after his death.

Not one word.

glad too see another atheist who knows his thing here:)

Wow! What an exchange we have going on here!

I know of no other piece of “fiction” that has elicited so much opposition for so such a period of time yet endures and continues to be held in such high regard by many people throughout the world and over the centuries. All this squabble reminds me of a famous quote; “The lady (posters) doth protest too much, methinks.”

the fact that alot of people believe gibberish does not make it any better or more true. I call this the McDonald’s argument:)

You mock faith in something we cannot see. Yet to not have faith in God also requires faith. You believe that there is no God. Yet you yourself cannot prove that there is no God, so you essentially have faith in the absence of a God.

You asked what was the point of my life, since I asked what was the point of life for an atheist.

Well, for me, life is about living for God. I treat others as I would want to be treated. So despite what you say about some “Christians” those who are truly Christians will not be mean to others for various reasons. But obviously everyone has moments where they can be mean, no one on earth is perfect. This is the reason that Jesus died for us. Despite the fact that you try to argue with people that they aren’t happy on earth, I don’t think this is true. Many of us Christians are truly happy with our life on earth. But, it does not compare to the happiness we will have when in Heaven. This is what they are saying. God created the earth to be perfect, but with the Devil and man’s downfall, it didn’t work out that way. Everyone has free will. So, at the end of days Christians will go to Heaven and live what was meant to be. So I look forward to being in Heaven.

Obviously for you atheists, this won’t hold a lot of weight since you choose not to believe. But since you asked what I see as the point of my life, I told you. What is the point of life to an atheist? You die, and then what? Isn’t that a rather depressing thing? How sad not to have faith in anyone other than yourself. As I’m sure you’re well aware, people will let you down. I know that God will not let me down. Sure, things may get hard, but no matter what I will get through it. That’s what faith is.

And really, I don’t see the point in atheism, because why wouldn’t you choose to at least believe in something? Wouldn’t you rather be safe than sorry?

Atheists choose to have faith in themselves. Yet, throughout history, it has been proven how stupid humans are. Sure we have our bright moments in advancing technology or what have you, but humans kill, they make dumb decisions, they lie. I’m not quite sure how people can look around at the earth and think that it all just happened randomly. It is too diverse and impressive to have just happened by chance. And if you want to say we evolved from chimps, well then, why are chimps still on the earth? Why would it split and humans evolve but nothing else from them?
Its hard for some people to deal with the fact that you…die. That you cease to exist. They can’t imagine not living, I find it rather self indulgent and ignorant even if they do not admit it to themselves.
Humans are dumb. They make up a excuse for what they cannot understand. Who created the earth, sky and water? A god did. Easy way out right? Its hard for them to admit that there are some things we do not know. And as for the question “And if you want to say we evolved from chimps, well then, why are chimps still on the earth? Why would it split and humans evolve but nothing else from them?” Explain why there is the white mouse and the brown mouse. Explain why some people have blue and some brown eyes. We are not amoebas! We change! Say, a white mouse breeds with a mouse that has dirty white fur. They have a brown baby. Say that brown baby breeds with a white mouse, and some of the babies are still brown! You still have the white, but there is brown too.

You do realize that there aren’t many Atheists in the U.S. to begin with, so what you need to do when you come across such statistics, is compare the amount of atheists who are in Prison with the overall atheist population in the U.S. (so you get a ratio)? Also, there are many Christian ministries that make the effort to change the lives of inmates, how do we know what percentage converted to the religions stated above (they could have started off as Atheists when they went to prison). Basically, all you’re giving is statistical information with no background or context, which is not a smart thing to do.

If a person calls himself (or herself) and atheists it usually means (s)he has strong views against religion. If someone calls them self a non-believer then it probably means that they just don’t believe. There are more atheists than you think there are in the US. Some are closet (especially the ones in the bible belt) and posts online, some just keep their mouth shut. Religion is a hard thing to measure, because some people lie, and some people won’t say. Therefore all we have to give is that there are in fact a good number of us out there and the percentage of people we have in the boot.

I’m considered catholic by the church, because of the stupid baptism certificate. And so are many others that do not believe.

Hello. I am an atheist. Now before you start spitting on my shoes I would like to know a little about what you believe? Belief usually varies from person to person that is why I did not post this in the admin/mod answer question thingy. I would like to know what you think about religion, how you think it is effecting the world, and why you believe what you do.
Thanks!

edit: sorry a little grammar check
Hello, Anna you have a very pretty name.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne

I have read this thread and you seem to keep up on all the posts. I believe in Jesus Christ. I will try to answer all your questions.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion
That is a text book answer.

I think God is Love. And forgiveness and much more.
I promise not to spit on your shoes how am I doing?

That is so true! Now we can proceed from a common standpoint.

I wish I could go into this further, but the late hour prevents me (so I’ll do what I can with what time I have). There seems to be a singular point at which the arguments stated here against God are focused - His unyielding moral absolutes which results in some rather (seemingly) unpleasant outcomes.

However, the atheist camp is intent on praising the ‘Laws of Science’ for revealing a plethora of solid, unswerving natural truths that should be embraced and wholly trusted and thus (apparently) repudiates the existence of God in the process.

The opposition as I see it is not so much in the area of absolutes as it is in the differentiation of absolutes. It’s an issue of whether mechanical or moral absolutes should have the preeminence and determine what is real.

We know, for instance, that there are ‘Laws of Nature’. What we don’t know is what is behind these laws. We know about the Law of Inertia, but what is the impetus for the inertia that we derive the perceived law from?

In my mind, it all boils down to the fact that man has an intense desire to be in authority and free from judgment - to choose what he wants to in spite of other evidence. To choose science over God. It’s analogous to picking a Big Mac over a Happy Meal and then justifying the decision by denying the existence of the source from which the other came from.

According to the Christian group Barna, 12% of Americans identify themselves as Atheists.

Science answers are not 100% certain.

Prove God

Absolute morals what the heck?

Humans tend to have fear for death so they invented afterlife. They also want to control over life and hate it is not fair, so God and his inevitable judgement were born.
