Very well. I am an atheist because I do not believe in a higher being. I do not know how the earth got here, and frankly, I don’t think we are ever going to know for sure. Some very convincing theorys out there though. I do not believe in the christian god because I find it rather disturbing. The bible, I mean. The Church has done many bad things over the years. I am an atheist because I am agnostic. There is no proof to back up any god out there. I do not think that atheism is bad to the world in any way.

I used to think the same as you. One of my cousins,who is LDS, asked me “Look around you, do you think everything happened by accident?” It took me several years to “see the light”. I have no doubt their is a GOD. He has answered many of my prayers and has shown me many miracles.

Everything did not occur by accident there is order in the universe that make it how it is. I dont know where you get that “by accident”. And what is so great about religion answer “god did it”? I much better prefer the plausbiles, interesting and elegant scientific explanations like bigbang, cyclic universe, evolution. as for not being a grudge holder, good for you. but being 12 probably helps in that arena a bit.

may i recommend that since you came here to learn that you be open to what you do hear here. you are a fan of evolution i see. but remember that evolution is called the “theory” of evolution. there aren’t a lot of real facts to back evolution either. sure there are many concepts that have been developed over the years that are presented as fact but it is act of faith to believe everything that the evolutionists tell you.

just keep asking questions and keep an open mind. faith and reason DO go together.

What you don’t know is your definition of THEORY is different from the scientific world. A theory in science explains the facts. They call it the THEORY OF EVOLUTION, bcuz it explains all the facts. So, please, before you go insulting Evolution with that over used argument, make sure you know the facts

I guess I misunderstood the accusations against God in this thread. Are the posts that object to God’s actions/judgments in the OT from the belief that He was too flexible and passive, or because He was firm and unyielding?

If I might jump in here, you’re right on both counts.

He was too firm and unyielding on issues such as wearing clothes of mixed wool and linen. I think people should be allowed more freedom in fashion choices. Oh, and genocide too - he was rather inflexible on that one. He might have let them spare the babies after all given his stance on stem cell research.

On the flip side, he was too flexible and passive in regulating issues of bronze age commerce, such as slavery and looting competing religions.

you are still so young. your mind has been set astray by an anti-God community. they are doing their darndest to brainwash the young and you are falling into their trap quite nicely. as your life progresses you will have your God-moments. we all get them. i just hope and pray that you are open-minded enough to heed the call.

Don’t fool yourself. Kids don’t need atheists to liberate themselves from religion.

There were few Roman Catholic families as devout as mine. I had never met an atheist in my life when I was about her age, but nonetheless I slowly moved that way. Turning to Catholic lay and clerical adults for help made it exponentially worse. I quickly learned that questions are fine as long as at a certain point the kid shuts up and gets in line.

I can hear the obligatory, “It’s not that way” coming, but I lived through it. That’s the way it was for me, and that’s the way it was for a lot of kids like me.

I can tell you things that happened to friends and relatives 20 years ago and non of it is written down does that mean it did not happen? And you have to keep in mind that what we call the bible came to be called the Bible those new testament writings were not written as hey we are going to write a holy book now.

I don’t know what’s more pathetic, the fact that the book says that, the fact that you believe GOD said that, or the fact that you believe it either way.

Do you not know what that is? It’s fear tatics! Of course they want you to believe in god and his so called glory, so they feed you those words. They say they’re words from GOD so you’re afraid and never stray away.

An atheist do no good? I raised 1275 dollars last year in one month for St Jude Research hospital bcuz my aunt died of cancer and I want to find a cure. I had a precious little girl with cancer at only 4 years old hug me and with her parents tell me I’m doing an amazing thing for her. I cried that whole ****ing day! Saying “If there is a god…why her? Why these little children?” Conclusion? NO GOD. This is a highly generalizing statement from some nut 2000 years ago, not to be mistaken with the so-called word of god. Even during the time these were written, nobody took them seriously enough to preach from them, for instance. They were stories to supplement the old testament.

An atheist does abominable deeds, and does no good? Then how do you explain that while 18% of Americans consider themselves not belonging to a religion or call themselves an atheist, only 0,2% of prisoners are atheist?

Approx. 40% are catholic, by the way.

In every crowd there is age discrimination. I became an atheist on my own. I went to the library, I researched it. I started thinking more and more about the reasons to and not to have faith in a religion. Then I started to talk to other people. As you can see I went to some atheist forums and to some Christian forums and let them share their cases. If you would only listen I think you would find the evidence against Christianity overwhelming, though you will not admit it to yourself. My parents are not responsible for what I believe. I have my own mind, kind sir, and I can think.

He created this world to give us a special, good place where our faith and our love for Him and for each other can be tested by the experiences of life.

That means that when you try to prove He doesn’t exist, He will totally let you do that. But if you sincerely ask Him whether He does exist, then if you have really been sincere and not “faking it” with your prayer, and have been patient since He also wants us to learn patience in this life, then He will answer you in a way that you understand as long as you don’t “second-guess” or think to yourself, “I know that I won’t get an answer.” God will only give us what we deep-down want, if it’s for our good. When Christ said, “Ask, and ye shall receive,” then He was talking about this very thing.

I will ask “god” whether he is real. I cannot think of anything that I want him to change that would effect me personally, I mean there are lots of bad things in the world that I would like to change. But I’m sure there are a lot of believers praying for it already, and how would a mere non-believer help that If it isn’t changing anything? The only thing I can think of asking is “Dear god, why do they believe? Show me the way to eternal life.” Now thats extremely cheezy, but whatever.

I wasn’t talking about you. I responded to the other person that made insulting comments about the Catholic Faith. Why is that person here if they are not open and insist on being disrespectful?

I’m sorry if people have hurt your feelings about your age. But if you are the age you claim then people have a reason to be concerned. Also, if you are truly 12 then please don’t call me “Dear”. THAT is offensive and disrespectful.
