Why must you be so disrespectful of Catholic’s beliefs ON A CATHOLIC FORUM? Are you insecure in your beliefs or just get your kicks being a jerk to people of Faith?

Is coming on a Catholic forum, bashing people of Faith and being utterly disrespectful considered good deeds to you??

What are your sources and what is the geographical breakdown? This will tell ALOT. Where were these people polled, what part of the country do they live, what type of crimes etc. etc.
Provide sources next time. People can make up any stat they want.
Hi,

I’m sorry if I come across as disrespectful, this isn’t really my intention. Not against those who are respectful towards me anyhow. You need to look at the context of my reply. I posted it towards a guy who cited some Bible verse stating that all atheists are jerks and topped it off with a “sad nod”-smiley. This is quite insulting. Nothing I posted is untrue as far as I know.

I came to this forum to have a discussion with Catholics on their views, or well - I came here to support Annabea’s views since I saw that I agreed with her on many points, and there was basically too many posts for her to be able to reply to here. “An atheist does abdominable deeds, and does no good”. That’s the gist of the quote matahari posted. I was very offended by this, because I am a person who is very empathic and tries to be alright to everyone. How is it disrespectful to defend myself when I am named responsible for abdominable deeds and labeled “does no good”? All I did was rephrase a statement from the Bible and add a question mark.

About my sources, I already posted them a couple of times but here they are again:
Hey Annabea, I’m from the same forums as you. ;p
Here’s a few sources:
harrisinteractive.com/news/allnewsbydate.asp?NewsID=1131
In 2006, 18% of Americans described themselves as agnostic or atheist.

In 1997, 0,201% of American inmates were atheists.

Do you believe you have the right religion? DO you think it could be a completely different this “god” is coming from, or even one that doesn’t exist?
Yes I do believe I have the right religion. I respect other people’s beliefs but after many years of looking into other denominations God led me to the Catholic Church. I have always had Christian beliefs but religion was never a topic in our house when i was young. My mother is Mormon, my father is Lutheran, niether of them go to church. This may sound strange to you but after I attended Mormon, Lutheran, Baptist, and non-denominational churches I was determined to pick one. Then I attended a Catholic Church and I can honestly say that as soon as I walked in the door I felt a sense of home and knew that God had led me. I entered the RCIA program and was baptized in 1999. Since coming into the Church my faith has never stopped growing. 👍

And why would there be? The Romans did not even believe in the God of the Jews so why would they write of his son. and the Jews did not believe him so why would they write?
Matthew 4:24 – The news about Him spread throughout all Syria… (25) And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and from beyond the Jordan.

Matthew 27:52 – and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints that had fallen asleep were raised; (53) and coming forth out of the tombs after his resurrection they entered into the holy city and appeared unto many.

If the Bible is to be believed, then the Romans had not only good reasons to write about him, it would be astounding that they didn’t – preternatural darkness and earthquakes the moment he dies, people raising from the grave and walking into Jerusalem, multitudes of followers all through the Transjord and Syria. Do not these things make good reason for the Romans (or any contemporaneous writer) to write about him?

Yeah, found them, sorry. I apologize for flying off the handle. :o

I wasn’t talking about you. I responded to the other person that made insulting comments about the Catholic Faith. Why is that person here if they are not open and insist on being disrespectful?

I’m sorry if people have hurt your feelings about your age. But if you are the age you claim then people have a reason to be concerned. Also, if you are truly 12 then please don’t call me “Dear”. THAT is offensive and disrespectful.
I’m sorry I call everybody that. Nothing personal.

I’m not talking about the different types of christian. I am talking about world religions. But okay, thats good for you. I’m glad that even if you can’t find peace with yourself you could at least find it believing something. Even if it is very unlikely.

There were people that personally witnessed Jesus perform miracles and still didn’t believe. Even the Apostles struggled, like Thomas for instance.

Thank you! I have 7 different windows and I am working on all of them.

You should really avoid the little snipes like the one I bolded. keep these sort of opinions to yourself. It’s these sort of little comments that cause confrontation. It also shows that you are not willing to be more humble and open while engaging in these discussions.

I was referring to the fact (yet again, how many times have I sad this) that there are many religions.

Please explain then, (once again) what you meant by saying “Even if it is very unlikely”
Were you or were you not insinuating that the person you responded to had found peace but not likely from their religion?

When I said even if it is very unlikely, I meant that there were so many religions out there that even if their was a god, it would be unlikely that it would be his. But that I was glad he found peace within himself. Unfortunately, not all people find peace within themselves even with religion. He may have found peace within himself by religion. I’m glad Churches go to foreign countries and help them with their problems (make them a well, give them mosquito nets, ect.). I’m glad churches do things for their community, that may be why he has found peace. Feeling like he was doing good. Who knows? I don’t, I don’t know why he found peace.

Explain please.
Well, christianity teaches you to be satisfied with the answers found in the Bible, whereas an atheist would rather encourage you to question everything you don’t know, and find out why things are the way they are instead.

If the Vatican didn’t lose their grip on Europe during the era of enlightement (not sure of the English name), we’d probably still believe the earth was flat and that the sun revolved around us.

I find this apologetic wholly unconvincing. We have copious writing on purported miracles in the early church. Saints are recorded by contemporaneous writers as flying, healing the sick, righting capsized ships, you name it – yet no contemporaneous writer mentions Jesus. This is highly suspect.

The story of Doubting Thomas was not about the difficulty understanding, believing, or dealing with miracles. It was all about dismissing a competing theology. The whole point of the story is you can’t touch a spiritual apparition.

Explain please.
You reject as superstition the existence of many thousands of gods. I consider a fraction of a percent more gods a superstition, the god Yahweh.

Your question is premised on the assumption that we’re wrong about Yahweh being classified with the remaining thousands of gods that you consider superstition. We disagree on that point, so we’re working with different assumptions to different conclusions.

I don’t follow, why would the Romans, if they even witnessed any, attribute miracles to something they didn’t believe in? Why would they write about it? Those that DID write about such things became believers. I’m not following you.

Or perhaps could have curtailed the slaughtering of millions of innocent Christians by the communists.
