Your worry is disproved by the Church herself. Just look at the solemn liturgy of the Church! The Holy Sacrifice of the Eucharist! Consider the penitential act:I feel that there’s TO much emphasis put on Mary that it detracts from Gods due. So much that I believe Mary herself would rather we focus on God.
See how the Church asks for Our Lady first, then the Angels most perfect, then the Church Triumphant, then the Church Militant, to pray for us in order to obtain forgiveness of our sins?…therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Consider the Roman Canon (Eucharistic Prayer 1)!
The Church Militant asks for God’s mercy and favor by reminding Him in first place (in primis) of our communion with Our Lady, not just mentioned casually (Mary) but with great reverence (“the glorious ever-Virgin Mary, Mother of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ”). Notice how saint Joseph is mentioned as “her Spouse”, honored because of who he was in relationship to Our Lady, not to Our Lord! Did the Church err and “take something away which was due to God”, by honoring blessed Joseph as the Virgin’s Spouse rather than, say, the Lord’s foster father? In communion with those whose memory we venerate, especially the glorious ever-Virgin Mary, Mother of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ, and blessed Joseph, her Spouse, your blessed Apostles and Martyrs…and all your Saints: we ask that through their merits and prayers, in all things we may be defended by your protecting help.
Consider the Angelic Salutation, the Ave Maria, one of the Church’s most illustrious prayers! “Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death”. Why pray such stuff, if it is better to pray directly to God? Consider the Angelus, which the Holy Father prays in public with his own flock at St Peter’s! “Pray for us, o Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ”. Such is the extent of her interecession! The Pope, Christ’s Vicar, and the Church Universal, ask Mary to make us, by her prayer, worthy of the promises of Christ!
Ok, no. The Holy Spirit alone isn’t God. The Blessed Trinity is God. God in three persons. How do the three persons relate to the Blessed Virgin? And how does anyone get that the Holy Spirit is Mary’s spouse??? The Holy Spirit is God, and isn’t the Church his bride?
God the Father is, indeed, her father.
God the Son is, indeed, her son.
What about God the Holy Spirit? Well, her union with the Holy Spirit is such that she conceives the Son of God. Indeed, an angel of God specifically tells her: " You will conceive and give birth to a son…Spiritus Sanctus superveniet in te (the Holy Spirit shall overtake you)"; and the same angel tells St. Joseph: “what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” What is the Holy Spirit’s relationship with the Blessed Virgin, then? It is essentially a spiritual matrimony. Mind you, the Holy Spirit speaks to His Bride throughout many books of the Old Testament! Consider Psalm 45:
A wedding song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.
Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
At your right side stands the queen, wearing jewelry of finest gold from Ophir!
The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your Lord.
The rich among the people will seek your favor.
The bride, a princess, looks glorious in her golden gown.
What a joyful and enthusiastic procession as they enter the king’s palace!
Your sons will take the place of your fathers: you shall make them princes over all the earth.
Consider the Canticle of Canticles:They shall remember your name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise you for ever; yes, for ever and ever.
Even among…countless young women
I would still choose my dove, my perfect one–the favorite of her mother, dearly loved by the one who bore her.
You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no stain in you.
A garden locked is my sister, my bride, a spring locked, a fountain sealed.
There are …] virgins without number. My dove, my perfect one, is the only one, the only one of her mother, pure to her who bore her.
Compare the above with Revelation 12:The young women saw her and called her blessed…“Who is this, arising like the dawn, as fair as the moon, as bright as the sun, as majestic as an army with billowing banners?”
A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.
She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter; and her child was caught up to God and to His throne.
This great dragon–the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world–was thrown down to the earth with all his angels…When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child…Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring–those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus.
