Help me! Just this morning they had drums at mass! The Priest sometimes leaves the sanctuary to do the homily…They pour the Precious Blood from one Chalice to another (yes after the consecration, thats why I said blood) and it stains the altar cloth…

I keep trying to point out that worship is meant to be transcendent, and that any fool can dance to rock music and feel good but worship is meant to be worth something more…

What can I say? What can I do?

Hi,

well, the drums wouldn’t bother me, I have no problem with lively music, but some might argue with that. But staining the altar cloth with the precious Blood, whoa! Can you talk to your priest to see what is going on? I would look for another parish if this becomes a “normal” occurence in that church.
Praying for you, God bless!

You have said “you keep trying to point out…” many of us have been there. So what to do? Bring a small digital camera with you to Holy Mass and get pictures as close as you can get to the abuse. Be discreet as you do not want to add to the scandal of it - confusion among the faithful.
Write a letter to your Bishop and send a picture. Be sure to declare your name and way to be contacted. I see you are in Germany - do you have a postal “certified return receipt” or “registered mail” capability? Then you have more to back up that you pursued resolution of the abuse to the correct authority. If the abuse goes uncorrected and you do not get a response, then another letter and one of the previously obtained pictures should go to the Vatican authorities. Remember to say a prayer that you will serve the Faith with a pure heart.

Grotto, great way to put it.

spilling of the Precious Blood is never to be allowed! C’mon, who wants to spill the Blood of our Lord?!?!?

Drums are not necessarily a sign of ‘protestantism,’ but the spilling of the Precious Blood may be a sign that the priest(s) are not as firm in their belief in the Real Presence as they should be.

Try and talk to the priests. If this doesn’t work, go to the bishop and so on, like Grotto said.

We’re praying for you. We’re all in this together!

Try and get it sorted Twizted - I wish you luck 😉

If all else fails - visit your nearest Eastern Church to lift your spirits for a while - no drums , just wonderful, timeless, reverent Liturgy.

Once you are at peace you can go RC again - if you want to that is

Go TLM, if you want to stay Latin Rite.

That way, you get a Penetential Rite, Gregorian Chant, polyphony, and no further spilling of Christ’s blood.

Quia tu es, Deus fortitudo nostra; quare nos repulisti, et quare tristis incedo, dum affligit nos inimicus?

ORATE PRO ECCLESIA ROMANA!

My Church has the same during the 2nd Mass of the day…though they have good voices the drums, trumpet and electric guitar ruin it…they call it a choir…I call it a band.

The Church has alot of what I call Charismatic-Pentecostal influenced laity today…

Yep. I didn’t like the band that plays in my parish so I now attend a TLM in another parish.

I guess I took the easy way out. When things started changing for the worse, in my opinion, I just went in search of another Parish. You may not have that luxury, I know, but I found a Church that was everything I hoped for and much more. If I wanted to worship in Protestant fashion, I would stayed Protestant!

And if I wanted to have a hippy liturgy, I would have remained in the 70’s. I think the whole Kumbaya Catholic thing should be banded. It is the year 2006 after all!

I’m curious, what about what you saw makes your parish Protestant? Drums? Not my cup of tea, don’t blame you, but if you go to your bishop and say,“This is PROTESTANT!”, he’s going to laugh, because it isn’t. It’s secular, you might use that word, but drums haven’t been forbidden (neither have they been encouraged). Now the pouring of the Most Precious Blood from chalice to chalice is forbidden. For that matter, it’s forbidden to pour the Most Precious Blood from a carafe and the carafe at least has the virtue of be intended to be used for pouring. The Most Precious Blood is not supposed to be fractioned at all. The need for more than one chalice is supposed to be anticipated and the wine consecrated in the respective chalices. I WOULD complain about that, if I were you.

Whew! Did you see the Cross of New Life? I’m all for art and fine sculpture, but I think I’d be freaked out if I had to look at that every Sunday. The idea’s nice, the execution’s a bit wierd.

The liturgical law being broken is from the 2004 Instruction “Redemptionis Sacramentum”:

"[106.] However, the pouring of the Blood of Christ after the consecration from one vessel to another is completely to be avoided, lest anything should happen that would be to the detriment of so great a mystery. … "

This document concludes with:

"All things to the contrary notwithstanding.

"This Instruction, prepared by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments by mandate of the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II in collaboration with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was approved by the same Pontiff on the Solemnity of St. Joseph, 19 March 2004, and he ordered it to be published and to be observed immediately by all concerned.

“From the offices of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Rome, on the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, 25 March 2004.”

So pointing this out to the parish priest, then bishop, then Congregation may result in a correction.

I’ve always felt that all these type of crucifixes, crosses, whatever they are, are designed primarlly to downplay the sacrificial aspect of the crucifixtion and emphasize the resurrection. However since Christ was not resurrected directly off the cross I think the effort falls a little flat. In all honesty I think many people would rather not even have a crucifix present, you know too gory and painful looking, and not at all in line with current feel good theology. You know how it goes: Christ isn’t the Savior who died for our sins, He’s my bro, my homie, He’s cool and we’re tight. He doesn’t ask anything, He doesn’t judge, He’s just one cool dude…Come on everybody, lets be a cheerleader for Jesus. 👍

Come to think of a lot of places don’t have crucifixes any longer. Maybe it’s only a matter of time until we are all enlightened.

What you said here is frighteningly like what I’ve heard growing up in a very protestant area. It’s really spread into Catholics, too. It’s sad that people are getting away from the beautiful message of Jesus and going to such a “feel good” way of looking at things. We’ve made God into our buddy.
