JKirkLVNV:
But they aren’t a sign of Protestantism. They are something that some Protestant Churches HAVE (but then so do some Catholic), but it isn’t a hallmark of Protestantism! Otherwise, almost all Native American groups were “Protestant” long before they were even baptized, if such a thing were possible! Drums are a musical instrument used by all sorts of different cultures. To be Protestant is to “protest” against the teaching of the Catholic Church and to deny the authority of the pope. Drums don’t DO that, they don’t protest anything. I’m not defending Protestantism, but it’s just plain incorrect to say that drums are protestant. “Sola Scriptura,” “Sola Fide,” congregationalism, “Once Saved, Always Saved,” reserving baptism for only adults…these are PROTESTANT. Drums are just DRUMS!
How about bongos?
(just ribbing you!)

Sir, must you always be so arrogant? In such a tone as yours, your contribution may be ignored.

PAX.
I would choose arrogance over the abject ignorance that more than a few exhibit on these forums when trying to use ther term “Protestant.”

It’s not only inaccurate, it’s counter-productive to misuse the term as son many do here. Others have commented well on this problem in this thread…

Bongos? Well, alright, they’re obviously Protestant, you can’t be an Methodist unless you own a set and have a covered dish to bring to church.

But seriously, part of any dialog with our seperated brethren HAS to be getting over our misconceptions about them, if only because one of the things they’ve go to do is get over misconceptions about Holy Mother Church. It drives me nuts!

Twiz-

You can’t go into this alone. Find others in your parish of a similar persuasion and choose from among you the most skilled at presenting reasons in a non-threatening way.

We all have to choose our battles wisely; and, if you choose this one, be in for a long haul.

For those who don’t know, she is
A supporter of Call to Action who promotes dissent. See her many articles in the National Catholic Reporter dissenting magazine.

from Our Ladies Warriors.

OH MY!
Interestingly enough, he’s on her list of “dissenters.” Maybe that’s why she was invited?
