If you are actually teaching catechism, you should make sure you actually know the meaning of Catholic vocabulary. Slander includes things said against the reputation of another person, such as accusations of vices or poor character, especially when accusations are either unfounded or untrue. Slander, calumny and detraction are all sins of grave matter. Charity, as used in my post to which you responded, is not limited to almsgiving or financial support of a cause. Charity is so much more than that. Charity is one of the three theological virtues; in fact, it is the greatest virtue. It is nothing less than the love of one’s neighbor (i.e. fellow human beings) for the love of God.
Then that goes against the cruel attacks against me. I didn’t slander the op’s daughter, I stated a FACT. She is getting taxpayer funded medical. The fact that several stated that “life’s unfair” and they have no problem with childless not getting help tells me they are no Catholics either.

Hmm, I work fulltime and still teach at church. I wonder how many of you so called busy sahm also teach. I’m willing to bet most do not because they are “too busy”.

Actually yes there is, there are weekends and evenings. That way dad can watch the kids.
Not necessarily. According to the OP, dad runs a car detailing business. Weekends are probably out for dad watching them. He may also have after regular business hours that are not free either. There is no way any of us can possibly know the inner workings of this family without being one of the spouses.

TC clearly believes she knows the details of others’ lives better than they do, and that those details are apparently all the same, for all stay at home mothers.

No working outside of the home is not the same thing but nice try. Many of these sahm don’t do much because their kids are in school. Many of them are lazy, otherwise they wouldn’t be spending hours online and having a messy house like a friend of mine. I never stated all of them but there are plenty like this.

***Actually they were intended to be cruel ***because some of you think because you have kids you are special. You’re not. The comments were pure evil and I’m saddened so many are teaching their kids to hate others. I don’t hate sahm, I just don’t think they are any better than anyone else and I don’t feel all are actually doing a good job.

Mary wasn’t on welfare and having multiple kids. There is no difference between mothers when they are on welfare. Sure, mistakes happen and pregnancy happens but then the couple works together to support those kids, whether it’s someone getting a second job or both people working or doing what they can. Simply saying they’ll go on assistance is showing lack of responsibility. I know plenty of large families but not one is on assistance.

Sorry but men I date are devout and do see a problem with people having kids they can’t afford. Men I date aren’t interested in having a sahm otherwise they wouldn’t date me. I have no attitude towards mothers, but towards those who use having a kid as an excuse to be lazy. I know plenty of hard working parents, but being a sahm doesn’t mean someone isn’t lazy. My friend certainly was, and her husband left her.
Actually you did say you intended to be cruel. Here is your post in which you stated that exactly. I underlined/italicized/bolded that phrase to make it easier to see what you typed

Then if it is successful they shouldn’t be on assistance.Otherwise I’m sure they could work around schedules so the kids have a babysitter. Maybe grandpa of the op can watch the kid since he mentioned helping them.

Oh please, cruel? I am stating a FACT. There is nothing cruel in that post. However many of the posts attacking me were cruel. My comments about intending to be cruel were the comments aimed at me, not my comments at the op but nice try twisting my words. You do know lying is in the 10 Commandments, right?

I do know I am paying taxes so people can receive assistance and those taxes keep going up. If she was a sahm not relying on assistance I wouldn’t care but she is so yes she can better herself so I don’t support her.

I’ll ask again, how many of you busy sahm actually teach at church? The fact no one responded tells me what I suspected. Yet I’m being judged?

I taught kindergarten classes for two years. Since then I have taught 2nd grade Sacramental prep for the last 8 years in three different diocese. I just moved here about a month ago so next year I will be teaching in diocese #4.

You did call the OP’s daughter a moocher. That was the word you used for her. You equated motherhood to animals giving birth. If that is not cruel than what do you call it? There are many other instances as well.

I have not lied nor twisted your words. I simply quoted your post. No one is judging you. I do pray that you can see how much you look down on others and I pray you begin to look up towards God because He is the one who can give you the answers you seek. That is not a judgment. That is a piece of advice.

I answered your question. You still never answered any of the questions posed to you throughout this thread by several posters.

Once again I have paid taxes since I was 16 so this idea that someone else will pay taxes for me is beyond ridiculous. I will continue to work as long as I am healthy. I have money put away too. I’m willing to bet that even if the next generation of kids pay for me it won’t be anywhere near what I paid in taxes.
You said you were on public assistance when you were sick, so you already gave some of that money back. Do you know how much health insurance goes up every year? Do you know how SS covers for a cancer patient? The paltry amt you paid at 16–I did the same–does nothing to combat the power of compounding of expenses as you get older. Unless you are in the top 1% then can afford a free ride because you make more than you use. Are you math literate at all?

I never said I was on public assistance, I said I applied for medicaid when I was sick and was denied. I found another job soon after. I made quite a bit in my career and have paid a lot in taxes.

Will you answer the questions asked earlier, especially these two:

If NFP fails this couple, what are they supposed to do about the baby?
Should this couple abstain completely since NFP isn’t 100% effective?

I answered the question you asked. Several posters have asked you these two questions. Would you please answer them?

We don’t know if this couple practices NFP so I can’t. However if one can’t support a child they need to make sure they don’t have any, and yes this may include abstinence when the woman is ovulating.

Medicaid is public assistance. Who pays for it? The taxpayer. There is more than one type of public assistance.

FYI - I am a SAHM to 7 kids and I teach catechism to preschool and kindergarten students in our parish. My husband has been asking me to quit for years as it can be difficult to juggle, especially when he is in the middle of his busy season as a CPA, but we manage, and I find it very satisfying!!!

I’ll answer that. I am a SAHM, run a seasonal tax business, am on the board at school, teach, assist with fundraisers and help them with their SCRIP program. Plus, I do adoration on a substitute basis. I also help my elderly parents with doctor appointments. Do I pass the test?

Yes she is a jewel. One of those folks who I put on a pedestal, you know, SAHM who are raising their precious ones who are made in the image and likeness of God and in His true Church to boot. As the prayer of St. Francis goes it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. I used to think that meant that when we die physically we spend eternity in heaven. I have come to understand that it means dying to self. As Jesus said, deny thyself, take up thy cross and follow Me. These women who could choose the route that would give them accolades here, have decided to take the greater reward both here (“her children will rise up and call her blessed”) and in the hereafter. Eternity for all of us has already begun.

Annie
Amen. Beautiful reflection for Monday of Easter Week.

My wrong. However, if you so against public assistance, isn’t it hypocritical of you to even apply?**

Actually you are willing to bet not because it doesn’t fit into what you think you know. It would throw your world upside down to realize that stay at home parents aren’t the people you think they are.

When my son was in classes, I taught. I taught for a few years after he was Confirmed. I was a SAHM. Now I am a non-working spouse.

I don’t teach now. But I can tell you that 95% of our teachers are parents. In fact I can think of only one teacher that doesn’t doesn’t have children. And she is a sub.

I feel your husband’s pain. My phone has been ringing off the hook…ugh. Tomorrow, tomorrow! Amen.
