CCR and its relationship with the Vatican.

The two main stay of CCR, the ICCRS (International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services) and CF (Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships) both have their offices in the Vatican.

The International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (ICCRS), is an international organisation approved by the Holy See as a Private Association of the Faithful with a juridical personality. Its recognition from the Pontifical Council for the Laity was given on September 14th, 1993. It operates as coordination, information and communication centre to serve the worldwide Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR), also making a link between the Movement and the Holy See.

The Catholic Fraternity of Charismatic Covenant Communities and Fellowships (CF) is granted Pontifical Association of Christ’s Faithful in 1990. It is serving member Communities arising from the Catholic church in the current of grace of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal - present in over 220 countries worldwide. One of its specific services is to link these Communities to the Bishop of Rome, through the CF ’s close relationship with the Pontifical Council for Laity.

Why do you seem so intent on trying very hard to discredit or dismiss CCR?

It’s not some group founded by a person who might be controversial (i.e. it’s not Legionaries of Christ). There are a lot of people interested in and to some degree invested in this movement for several decades now. It’s not hurting anybody as far as I can see, there is no widespread scandal associated with it, nobody is forced to participate, and it’s not even been subject to any “cult-like” accusations that Opus Dei and Neocatechumenical Way and a few other groups have gotten from time to time.

It is simply a group of people who are trying to practice their faith in some way that you apparently don’t like. So fine, don’t participate, but why is it so important to you whether the Pope approves of it or likes it or not? Seems nit-picky and biased.

It seems however that the statements by Popes JPII and Benedict that Reuben_J posted go beyond just a “kind word” and suggest that CCR is something beneficial and necessary to the Church.
I don’t think so. Yes, they all support the CCR as having beneficial properties. Anything the is moved by the Holy Spirit would be, but the CCR is not necessary for the Church. Renewal by the HS is necessary, and takes a variety of forms.
I go back to the question I always ask, are the Sacraments not sufficient and why was this great gift of tongues withheld from the Church for 1600 ish years?
I think this is a misdirected question to be asking. The purpose of the Sacramental life is for the faithful to go forth and be light and salt to the world. It is not appropriate for us to practice all the gifts given to us for this purpose to be manifested during Sacraments.

You are in error in your belief that any of the gifts of the HS have been withheld from the Church at any time. However I am content to respect that you wish to embrace this falsehood for reasons of your own. You need, for some reason, to deny the validity of the work of the HS through the CCR.

I think when people do this, it indicates some deep and personal issue that is unhealed. In reading through the posts, it is possible to glimpse into how a wound has occurred, but such things are not appropriately addressed on an internet forum.
