Holy Father, I pray that you stay on course with your restoration of the Catholic Church to where it should be and do away with the added nonsense that has infiltrated the Ordinary Form of the Mass. I pray the Holy Spirit will guide and protect you from the inherent rebellious spirits that you might encounter along the way. AMEN…

Joining my prayers with yours, Jay29.

Ah! Ah! Ah!

:highprayer::highprayer::highprayer::highprayer::highprayer::highprayer::highprayer::highprayer:

Oh I praise God for sending me to a good Church for my first time back. If that is what i had seen I don’t think i would be becoming a Catholic!

In the second link, did they cover the crucifix up with that mural?

I believe those last three pictures are of those Dutch Dominicans who have given out pamphlets arguing the position that any layperson can say Mass. A sad, sad, state of affairs.

I remember reading years ago about the Dutch producing a catechism that was heretical. They seem to start some of the evil trends.

St Benedict, pray for Pope Benedict to exorcise the evil and to be protected as he does it!

You’re definitely right about the Dutch. Though at least there’s something good going on there:

Hopefully the TLM will take off and correct these gross mistakes.

The comments after the article on this link are most interesting!
I love my faith and my Roman Catholic heritage. However, I pray, dear God, that you do not allow your church to go back to the days of closed doors, secret “stuff”, ignorant priests and nuns (YES) and parishioners following blindly, attending Mass they considered beautiful but did not understand. Lead us away from the days when we were discouraged to read the Bible, (we couldn’t understand it anyway unless a priest was standing over us to explain the scriptures, so we were told.) Lead us away from the days we were in fear of God rather than in “love” with our creator. We were a much sicker church before the NO. Maybe no one noticed that most of the sexual abuse in our churches, etc. happened years ago. Many of those priests are dead! How lovely that they said the Mass in Latin with their backs to the folks in the pews!!! Maybe if they faced us during Mass, their conduct would have been above reproach!! (Just a thought) Not all was bad by any means, but, dear God, thank you for the changes made, guided by the Holy Spirit.

Since you obviously have such a bad understanding of having “their backs to the folks in pews” — it says much about the rest of your post.

The Orientation of Prayer
  1. The cosmic conception of salvation which “is visited from on high” (Lk 1:78), inspired the apostolic tradition of orientating Christian buildings and the altar towards the East, so as to celebrate the Eucharist facing the Lord, a custom still followed in the Eastern Churches. “It is not a question, as is often claimed, of presiding at the celebration with the back turned to the people, but rather of guiding the people in pilgrimage towards the Kingdom, invoked in prayer until the return of the Lord.”[193]

Ah, yes, because it is more important to face the men in the pews, than it is to face God.

The overwhelming number of cases of sexual abuse committed by Priests, at least that we know about occurred from the mid to late 60’s up through the 90’s. As far as reading the Bible we have been encouraged to do that for a long long time. we were cautioned against making our own judgements about it as they may very well be flawed. I think the existence of so many protestant sects where scripture has been freely interpreted gives evidence of the need for church interpretation as opposed to individual.

We certainly don’t seem to have much of a problem with ignorant religious any longer, especially nuns. Not many of them left at all, especially in the western world. Of course, the nuns who celebrate their own Masses and perform their own consecrations are still around, but I guess that they are all right. And it is true that some of them have been ordained or maybe even ordained themselves as priests.👍 Which is probably a good thing as Priests seem to have been deserting in droves and have been for the past forty years.

But these days we do have committed priests such as Father F of Aliso Viejo California who dressed in Barney Costume during Mass and tells the congregation that Barney loves them and for everyone to stand for a Barney blessing:thumbsup:

You are right. The church is much better than it was. We have reduced the Most High God to a six foot purple dinosaur who blesses us. I’m certain the Holy Spirit wanted it that way.

I love my faith too and I pray we do not stay in the days of the ignorant church where we are in love with ourselves rather than with God. Where Bishops\Parish Priests\Parish Administrators dilute the faith for parishioners, wasting money on destroying beauty and anything to do with God.
We can skew reality with our own personal views lets seek what is good in the past and the present. I find a couple good things with the present, EWTN, Internet Catholic interaction, Catholic Radio, better print media, but plenty of problems.
We are much sicker now, but we have always had a sick Church.

Why not look at the supposed bad of the past, look at the bad of the present and lets move on to a restored Church of the future. Where Christ is the center and we get rid of the current trend toward people being the center.

I grew up in the NO Mass and I do not see it as the reason why I am Catholic, I am Catholic because Christ is the center of the faith. I see the past as our heritage and something to benefit by, not to oppose. I see our future as embracing our past and focusing on removing the mistakes we have all made by repenting of our self centered focus and focusing more on Christ.
Unfortunately we are in such a self centered society this will be very difficult for us to overcome and to refocus on God.

God Bless

Just a quick question Mom of 5: you don’t condone the actions shown in those pictures do you?

Sir, you are totally disgusting, not amusing. For the most part, I admire young people who are striving in their faith and trying to learn about their Catholic faith, as it WAS and Now…However, for someone who has barely begun to live, telling someone with a nearly 70 year history of being Catholic she is wrong, in a way that is very disrespectful cannot be pleasing to God. You tend to argue nonsense in most of your posts…grow up, young person, grow up!!!

I didn’t mean any of my post to offend you, and I never meant it as an accusation of any kind. I just wanted to honestly know if you “condoned” any of the actions in the pictures, and I’m glad that you don’t. I am sorry I offended you with my seemingly innocent question. Also, it is quite imprudent to say I “argue nonsense” when all I did was ask a question and especially when most on the forum have found that I am quite knowledgeable and helpful.

I am slightly younger than you are. A couple of years from 60 and in my opinion you are in denial. I can remember when my uncle missed Mass because he was traveling. He called my parents and told them to go" wake up the priest." He was coming to make a confession! That’s how it was back then. You may call it fear, I calll it love for God and His Church. The Sunday and Holy day obligations were never missed. Confession was once a week. Does that happen now? Mass is less that half full on Holy days. The confessionals are empty. Belief in the Real Presence is 30%. Something has happened.
I can remember that on every Feast of Christ the King every major city in the world had a procession. In my city every Catholic school and Church gathered downtown. The streets were all blocked off. At least 30-40,000 Catholics marched with banners declaring, “Christ is King”. Surely you can remember that. I don’t see that happening now.
The Church is in a crises and people like you either don’t know it or refuse to acknowledge it. If things continue the way they are there won’t be any priests in 20 years. They will disappear just like the nuns. You and I won’t be on this earth much longer. It will be these young “whipper snappers” that will have to carry on the Traditions that our generation failed to fight for.

Yes, it is indeed true that none of us knew what was going on in Mass back then. I can remember kneeling there and saying decade after decade of the rosary…not! If I had a nickle for every time I’ve heard this, I’d be a wealthy man. By the time we were in second grade and made our First Communions we had gotten pretty good at reading. My mother showed me how to use my missal and I can see her finger pointing to the rubrics and to the words in Latin as they were said. I don’t believe my experience was anywhere near unique.

Scripture? I went to a Catholic boy’s high school from 8 - 12th grade. This was before 1970 btw. Seems to me I can recall having the Plan of Salvation laid out before me and readings from the (gasp!) Bible as part of nightly assignments for religion class.

Fear of God? You betcha! I’ll plead guilty to that. I have a conscience (or as was explained to me in religion class in 8th grade by Brother Eugene [God rest his soul] “con scientia” - with knowledge) and I thank God for the good nuns, brothers, and priests who taught me.

Priests? I was an altar boy from fourth grade to my senior year in high school. The majority of priests back then (as now) were men of God. Do you have any idea of how many 6 am Masses I served with just me and Father in attendance? Fr. was a young chaplain in WWII and parachuted with the troops into Normandy in 1944. He encouraged my life-long love of history. I believe you paint with too broad a stroke.

Nuns? What an influence on me. Starting with being sent to the principal’s office when I did well in arithmetic. No, all we want to believe is that old caricature of sister standing there with a yardstick. We don’t ever see Sister giving out holy cards for good grades in math - or that those cards are still in one’s 1962 St. Joseph’s missal. Or the nun who took you aside and told you it was OK to be a nerd and not an athelete.

Or 25 years later to encounter one of those nuns (from the convent of your new parish years ago where you served as an altar boy) years later when you both sang in the choir and she acts “in persona Christi” when you are troubled.

I was one of those who was quite happy with HMC as it was in the late 60s. If everything is so hunky-dory today, why have I driven 25 miles (one way) since 1983 so that I can attend a reverent NO?
