Since your boy name is Teddy Jude, how about Teddie Jade for a girl?
Grace is a pretty name…Yes, Anne is my fave between those two. Although I really do like Jane, too, we cannot use that name.
I want to give several options to my husband for him to choose from, though.
How rude. I have what you refer to as a filler name for my middle. In fact, mine is one that you listed. This is just a personal quirk but I suggest avoiding what I call “filler” middle names and that list includes Lynn. Anne is okay but Ann is not. Also on the list: Marie, Jo, Lee (Leigh is kind of okay). I know the middle names of a lot of people and among women these names are ubiquitous. Let’s give them a rest. There are a lot of options out there so let’s use them.
Now, if any of those is a “family name” passed down from a previous generation or the name of a friend or someone you want to honor, that makes it okay to use (in my mind :whacky
Yes, Marie is a saint’s name, as it Ann but many times Mary would work as well as Marie. There are also more saints than just Ann and Marie so plenty of variety.
And I love Theodora Rose. And Theodore Jude! Each name clicks with the other well.
That is what my daughter wants to pick. She has offered Hazel and Jade. Can you tell she is a free-spirited, artistic girl?Since your boy name is Teddy Jude, how about Teddie Jade for a girl?
Ok, I have a question:That is what my daughter wants to pick. She has offered Hazel and Jade. Can you tell she is a free-spirited, artistic girl?![]()
Do you consider the meanings of names when you pick them? I’m curious if others do, too. To me it is an important part of the naming process. (I got my first baby name book when I was 12 so I might be a little different in that way.)That is what my daughter wants to pick. She has offered Hazel and Jade. Interesting post.Ok, I have a question:
lots of times, my friends say "we’re going to name the baby BLANK…and we’ll call her BLANK…
Why not just go with the intended name in the first place? If you’re concerned about Saint names, make sure the 2nd name is a full blown Saint name.
As someone who worked in the Catholic schools for a long time, it causes all kinds of problems, from registrations, certificates, report cards, tests, references, etc. when people have to list all their “aliases”. Much paperwork doesn’t allow for that. So you get your new class roster, and some boy is in your class named “Armstrong” and he gets embarrassed and says “My name is MAC!”
Kids get really embarrassed and harassed when they have an assortment of names. Not saying it’s right, but people with names other than what they given at birth seem to have a sore spot about it. I had women friends who say Oh, my real name is Dorothy but I HATE my name. My family has always called me Dolly. And then get upset if you happen to find out their real name. How can the rest of the world know what they should be called when their names are printed out as something else on every legal document?
I don’t mean to be wet blanket, but I wonder if just Teddy would be nice? I love it!
Having said that, we have a family in the parish that just had their 9th child. Theodore. He’s adorable. And everyone calls him Theodore. Theodora is lovely too.
I hope find something that’s a good fit for your family. Congratulations on the baby!
I just wanted to let you know how some kids I’ve encountered have felt. I hope I don’t’ offend, if so, I’m sorry.
God bless.
Yes, we do. All of our previous children have one unique name and one family name (borrowed from our grandparents). Well, we have run out of grandparents now, and we have regularly used religious/saint/traditional names, which is how we settled on Theodore.Do you consider the meanings of names when you pick them? I’m curious if others do, too. To me it is an important part of the naming process. (I got my first baby name book when I was 12 so I might be a little different in that way.)
I have a filler middle name. Four out of my nine female cousins have that same middle name, three more have another one. Not even going to start counting friends with filler names. How rude. I have what you refer to as a filler name for my middle. In fact, mine is one that you listed.
Just being silly, I am not actually mad. Everyone has their preferences.
Edited to add: also, you do realize you said to avoid Marie, when my user name is Maree?? Hilarious.
I am glad you like Theodora Rose. That is my favorite.![]()
Yeah, I don’t know what is going on with the forum display. It keeps jumping around.I have a filler middle name. Four out of my nine female cousins have that same middle name, three more have another one. Not even going to start counting friends with filler names.
And Maree isn’t Marie. No, really. So, according to kind of subjective OCD-esque rules (that I think only make sense to me) Theodora Maree is totally okay but Theodora Marie is not. Unless Marie is the first name (not middle name 'cuz no copying of filler names :tsktsk
of a family member for beloved friend.
The forum is really jacked up tonight.![]()
How about Rosebut if we are having a girl, we have no clue of what middle name would be good with Theodora.
yes! I went to grade school with a girl named Jude. She came from a huge hispanic family that tired of the Mary names for girls and the Joseph names for boys. So they switched it up!Why can’t you keep her middle name as Jude, too?
I love that name! I have a girlfriend whose first name is Jude…I think it’s gorgeous. It’s not just a boy’s name.
.
Yes, we like this tradition and we already did this with all of our other children. Unfortunately, because of name reuse and coincidental same names between family trees, and the fact that our siblings followed suit with this tradition once they started having children, we have run out of names! Hence our current trouble. We have used our childrens’ middle names as a way of honoring family members, or in one case, a spiritual family member. Our childrens’ middle names come from the following:
So you could think about whether there is a grandmother or other family member who you would like to honor by using her name as your child’s middle name.
- My wife’s grandfather’s first name
- The first name of a beloved pope who was recently declared a saint
- My grandfather’s first name
- My father’s first name
