Help with baby!

I know all the medical professionals will yell at me for this, but with my 2 month old, I lie her down on my chest (I’m dad) on her tummy and just rock her slowly with my hands on her bum.

I did this with 3 or my 4 and they all slept well like this, even to this day when I crawl into bed with my 2.5 year old he wants to climb on top of me and sleep. It’s cozy and warm for both baby and me and they sleep.

The 2 month old has been sleeping from 11 pm until 7am, sometimes later, I usually wake her up when I have to get up to go to work, for a while. It’s not a perfect solution and it’s not the best sleep for me, but with it being my fourth (and my wife unfortunately telling me there will be no more), I’m trying to savour every moment of my baby…I know I’ll catch up on the sleep later, but it really is such a short time over our lifetimes.

I hope that you are able to find a solution to this problem. I would second seeing a doctor just to make sure as well.
Man, you are a good daddy!!!

I cannot thank you all enough for your responses! It makes me feel so much better just to hear your encouragement and commiseration 🙂 I knew that of all the sites out there, this was the place to go for help!

I have tried the doctor re:reflux, and I have some drops for it, but they don’t seem to help and I don’t think it’s colic or reflux at this point. Baby has no problem GOING to sleep, just STAYING asleep (although last night, I had to sleep holding him in my arms because he cried every time I put him down).

He is exclusively breastfed, although I might try giving him some apples or something today because maybe that’s just not getting the job done!

We do cosleep, with a crib as a sidecar. Actually, our 2 year old is still sleeping in bed with us (I know, we should get him out, but I just love the snuggles).

Good advice about trying to feed him for longer at night-when he wakes up, he basically uses me as a pacifier and then goes right back down, so he could very well be hungry. I’m just so tired myself that I don’t have the heart to wake him back up!

I am on Zoloft. Maybe I need to up my dosage, haha.

I just feel so bad because my 2 year old really needs to be going outside and playing and things like that but I’m so tired all the time that I hardly have the energy to do more than the bare minimum of feeding, bathing, cleaning, etc.

And yes, my 2 year old was a terrible sleeper too, although now he sleeps like a rock!

Thank you all SO much for the replies! I feel so much better just having read your advice and encouragement. And thank you for the prayers as well, it really does mean so much to me 🙂

It is so easy to doubt yourself. God made mother’s milk to be the perfect food for your baby, so, don’t worry that it is not enough.

Some babies just don’t sleep well, some go through periods of not sleeping - the key is to ask friends and family for help, to nap when baby naps and to know that the day will come when you will long to sit up all night with that little one again.

Pray and don’t worry!
