He does not believe works have anything to do with us being saved. He does not believe we co-operate with our Salvation. Yet he says our faith is known by our works.  I am really confused about what he is saying!
Well, Scripture itself does not profess that we are saved by faith alone.

St. James Epistles early shows that faith apart from works is dead and vice versa.

[25] And in the same way was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
[26] For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so faith apart from works is dead.

As to the Church Fathers he does’t care. It has to be in Scripture. I’m thinking since he’s part of the Calvary Chapel movement he’s reading books by the founder Chuck Smith.
Hmm. I’ve read a lot of the Bible. Never saw this “Chuck Smith” fellow mentioned.

I am confused! Unless you meant he is confused. I know how he doesn’t understand, but I am trying to understand why he is seeing it the way he does.
Frankly the “WHY” is what you may never know. If you could find out “WHY” then you would get to the root of the problem, and be on your way to converting him.

What I mean is there tends to be stubborn refusal to believe anything Catholic, regardless of what the Bible says.

Which is quite unfortunate. I used to say that if the Church got rid of the “apocryphal” books I would have no problem joining. Little did I know of Church authority! 🙂

Congratulations, welcome home.

I have to go to sleep good night.

Catholic with a little, lower case letter “c” is defined as “universal.”
