You have just articulated one good reason why Martin Luther should not have broken with the Church…

he’s responsible for making it so that a lot of people feel the way you do… confused, lost, etc…

all i can say is you probably should study Church history in depth…

or if that thought makes your brain tired…or what have you… you could just accept the obvious fact that there was only the Catholic Church for 1500 + yrs…

all Christians (virtually) know that…
