But there is a fundemental problem with Penny’s reasoning. Whether courageous or not is a seperate discussion.I think Penny Plain strikes a chord we all hear inside. She is courageous for bringing it out, and I want to thank her.
.
The fundemental problem is that Catholicsm, by defintion (universal) requires the Catholic to abide (not necessarily have reached agreement) by it’s infallible dogma or one is not in communion with the Church and cannot claim to be (and be correct). From my understanding it is not a subjective discussion.
The merit of the dogma (in this case homosexuality); the merit of the churches claim of infallibility (under the proper definition); the Truth of these matters is all not the issue. The issue is simple well defined and objective. Simple put: To be (and this is important) by ones own definition a catholic who refuses to abide by church dogma “cafeteria Catholic” is a Catholic not in communion with the church.
Please, correct me if I have this wrong.
