John Yurich:
If the Virgin Mary did not have any other children then Jesus then why does it state in the Gospels that Jesus was the first born son of the Virgin Mary?

John
So what is so strange about first born and only? 👍

That business that the “miracle” was getting people to share their lunches was mentioned from my Presbyterian pulpit over 30 years ago, when I was a teenager. I thought it was something my minister had thought up, and I was so impressed! (was very into “symbolism” at the time). Of course, gradually this sort of thinking eroded my faith. I thank God he brought me to my senses and into the Catholic church. However, now I find this kind of nonsense everywhere in the Catholic church! This story must come from seminaries—Protestant seminaries. It’s so arrogant to think God can’t work real, genuine miracles. Especially since the Church does teach that the Son of God, through Whom all things were made, is capable of working miracles, as far as I know–correct me if I’m wrong.

This is so old–I really wish the so-called “progressives” would just grow up. Or become honest Protestants.

Probably the best solution would be to discuss it with your parish priest, if you have such a problem.

Leaving the parish probably wouldn’t be good for those there who might not have recognized the error who wouldn’t be leaving with you.

Snitching to the bishop should never be the first step, as the first likely solution if the bishop is impressed would be to remove the priest to another parish. In addition, snitches aren’t really that appreciated in any society, so it should be a last resort.
All true, except I wouldn’t be so shy about going to the Bishop as not to do it at all, once I discovered that the pastor had no intention of halting his heresies.
Our responsibility to the Church includes the Bishop, who darn well has a right (and a need) to know what the priests are saying out there. To keep it from him because we’re afraid he won’t do the “right” thing, is selling him short.

Also, my own experience regarding a certain liturgical abuse, is not that a Bishop will quickly take harsh action. Not at all.

Peace.

Although your stay John was short, let me explain, in that era, first born was a term used.
It didn’t matter if there were 1–2–3 children etc; if a family only had one child, then that child was still called the first born.

Sir Knight:
The pastor of my previous parish also mentioned during the homily that the miracle of the loaves and fishes was a “community sharing” event.

I quickly changed parishes!
I don’t think it was a coincidence that the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes comes right before the Bread of Life discourse. I think it was a foreshadowing.

Check out John, chapter 6.

Likely fits right in with his theology of the Eucharist.
