Rome, Italy, Apr 15, 2015 / 02:25 am (CNA).- In a recent Facebook post, well-known Roman exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth said the Islamic State (ISIS) “is Satan,” and he also questioned the lack of response from Western nations.
“ISIS is Satan. Things first happen in the spiritual realms, then they are made concrete on this earth,” he said in an April 8 post on the social media website.
Father Amorth continued, “there are only two spiritual realms: The Holy Spirit and the demonic spirit.”
He said the demonic enters in “because evil is disguised in various ways: political, religious, cultural, and it has one source of inspiration: the devil. As a Christian I fight the beast spiritually.”
“The political world, which today seems to lack a response in face of the massacre of Christians, will also have to fight ISIS and it will do it in a different way. If it advances as it seems to be doing, we ask ourselves what has the West done over the course of the last decades.”
The priest, who founded the International Association of Exorcists, explained that Satan “keeps saying that the world is in his power, and what he says is true. Biblically speaking we are in the last days and the beast is working furiously.”
ISIS took control of the largest Christian city in Iraq, Qaraqosh, in August last year, causing tens of thousands of people to flee.
The terrorist group has persecuted and murdered Christians and other religious minorities in parts of Syria and Iraq.
Fr. Amorth, age 90, has performed over 70,000 exorcisms during the past 29 years. The number is so high because carrying out an exorcism can require multiple sessions and each time the rite is administered it is counted as one instance.
Fr. Amorth has previously spoken about the danger posed by people no longer believing in the devil, as well as a shortage of exorcists.

As many years as he has practiced exorcisms, he of all people can recognize Satan. Somebody had to say it. The article was good.

It will really hit the fan when they reach the US!!

Its bound to happen here soon too, This is going to get very real to many christians in the US very soon, I just hope people have enough faith to stand up for their beliefs and deny God when it comes down to it, to save their own skin.

Given the horrific acts they perpetrate, I think that’s fairly self evident. They smile and laugh as they cut off people’s heads and murder children… that’s definitely not a work of Godly people.

Having free will, the murdering ISIS barbarians direct their own actions.

Prayers for all the innocents caught in this horrid abomination of evil.

Eternal Father, please hear our prayers for the innocent, the persecuted, the displaced people who are in harms way, please put your arms of protection around them and keep them safe so they can come to a full knowledge of your love and mercies. My spirit cries for them. Lord Jesus, Mother Mary, and all of our Saints, have mercy on their souls.

I’m quite sure the people, men, women, and children of other tribes who were killed by the Israelites just because they were in the wrong religion felt the same as what you express in your post. “This couldn’t be a work of Godly peple.”

So maybeGod is just weening ISIS off of more horrific acts and molding them as a nation first, like he did with the Israelites back in the Old Testament when they went around slaughtering neighboring tribes by the command of God?

In no sense minimizing the horrific evil that is ISIS, but which is actually more “Satanic:” gross, visible, bloody violence that is being publicly condemned by most of the world - OR - the gross, bloody, Invisible violence toward the unborn that numbers in the millions and is actually accepted, condoned, and subsidized by most of the world?

good point…when you really think about it, should all these people who claim they are so outraged by ISIS, really be so outraged at all? I mean, they know for a fact what happens to 1000s of unborn babies every single day…yet not outraged by this…?? that is classic hypocritical behavior, maybe they should be called out on this? Maybe that would make them recognize their error?

70,000 exorcisms in 29 year may be a tiny bit exaggerated.

Do the math:

If the good Father preformed one exorcism a day for 29(yrs) x 365 (days per yr) that equals 10585 exorcisms. To get to 70,000 he would have had to preform an average of 6 exorcisms a day.

Another way: 70000/365 = 191.78 years.

For the record: ISIS is evil.

The time required to perform an exorcism is missing from the math.

Minimum < 60 seconds

How about the exorcisms that takes days, months, or years. Someone should have vetted the figures but it must have been the excitement of numbers.

I don’t think vetting the numbers is possible. We have to rely upon Fr. Amorth’s count. The exact number isn’t important.

A single exorcism that lasts for a long time is the accumulation of multiple individual exorcisms, each of which is added to arrive at the total.

Perfect example of how the devil works in these responses. Diversion from discussing the reality of demonic activity by nitpicking the number of exorcisms performed… Lord have mercy on us.

I have problems with Father Armorth and some of the views he expresses in his books- I have read his books related to demonic activity and exorcism and his views on mental illness are troubling as a mental health worker. I believe he does good work but may be fairly eccentric- not the best public voice for exorcism in the Church.

He is right speaking of ISIS though, just as all egregious violence and murder is of the Devil.
