Is there much credability to this book? I have not read it. However, if it is junk-writing why have the Clintonites put so much pressure on the press not to review it or interview the author?

I’ve not read the whole thing yet, so this is just my first impression - it seems so far to be a rehashing of the same things which were more credibly discussed in four other books: Dereliction of Duty - by Patterson, Re-Writing History - Morris, American Evita - Anderson and Hell to Pay - Olson. (Barbara Olson, who died in the crash into the Pentagon.)

Klein has copious footnotes, but he relies on an awful lot of “anonymous” sources and he includes some details which I would personally never have included, had I written the book. It’s a “National Enquirer” level of book in some ways.

Interestingly enough, just before the election Kitty Kelley went on a national book tour to promote her “National Enquirer” anti-Bush screed and she was welcomed in the open arms of the media. They could not get enough of her.

Like Klein, she relied heavily on unnamed sources and one of the sources that she did name is someone who is well known to be unhinged. The Bushes didn’t threaten the networks or try to squelch promotion of the book. They just ignored it.

Now, Klein can’t get a hearing - media outlets are being threatened with lawsuits and a refusal of all future interviews by the Clintons if they give the book any air time. Go figure.

The same thing happened with the Swift Boat Veterans. Tour of Duty (a hagiographical biography) got ink and air and raves while the truth of a few hundred of Kerry’s Swift peers was ignored and marginalized as “largely discredited.” (Even though not one claim made by Swifts has yet been disproven! The media took up that “largely discredited” mantra and they haven’t yet put it down, even though Kerry was forced to recant on several major points!)

Based on Klein’s editorial history, I think that the Klein book was written in a perverse way to promote Hillary Clinton.

With this book coming out right now, there is less likelihood of there being last-minute surprises that could derail her run for the Presidency. She is insulated from future criticisms of this type if they get all the dirt out, now. “Oh, that came out when Klein wrote his book and we’ve already put that to rest. It’s a bunch of lies.”

The egregious lack of compassion for the Clinton daughter is going to play well in Hillary’s favor, too. She is once again able to play the victim, as she did when the Monica Lewinsky case was made public. But Chelsea Clinton has never done anything to deserve some of the material in this book - despicable behavior from a “serious” journalist. It simply makes no sense, unless you consider that this book may have been written to protect Hillary.

I would recommend the books I mentioned above instead of this one. Those are well-documented and they don’t stoop to crucifying an innocent young woman. However, nearly everything I’ve read so far has been backed up by other sources, so I have no reason to doubt the veracity of what he’s written - just his sensitivity and common sense.

Why did Hillary ask her friends in the MSM not to interview Klein?

Simple. To give him publicity. To encourage conservatives to buy the book.

Let’s not forget, Klein is part of the liberal media. He was an editor at Newsweek which is owned by the Washington Post. He was also an editor at the New York Times. His liberal credentials are impeccable. He would not write anything which would harm the Clintons or any other Democrat. He didn’t work all his life to give up those Georgetown cocktail parties and the other perks of being in the liberal establishment because he thinks people need to know what slime the Clintons are.

Hillary owes the publishing industry a favor too. They made her millions the day she left the White House. So why not do this? There is no downside for her. Sourced books have been written on her illegal commodities straddles, her deals with Madison Guarantee, her White House smear machine which used PIs to intimidate women. This book is trash. It will probably give her a boost with her base (not that she needs one)

She, Klein and the publishers are laughing about this book.

I agree with this 100%. With all the publicity and sympathy for Hillary over this book, it can do nothing but help her with her political ambitions.

Using anonymous sources who can’t be questioned or weeded out to see if they have an axe to grind, should never be accepted. This is the classic: make a grandiose claim to sell a book and back it up with secret sources.

It’s bogus.

However, when Kitty Kelly did the same thing to George Bush, she got three days on the Today show to promote her book. That’s right, three days! To be fair, Matt Laurer grilled her, but still, three days! Let’s see how many days Klein gets. I suspect zero.
