Under Obama the economy improved dramatically, despite the efforts of the GOP to block his agenda. There is no reason to think that continuing those policies will end badly. And the number of government employees has declined under Obama, not increased.

Extra point question: name the last Republican president who reduced the size of government.
Economic growth these past seven years has been 1.5% per year, compared with more than double that under Reagan and Bill Clinton. [3.5 - 3.9%]

Pretty anemic.

First of all, you have to remember the number of federal “employees” is about stable, but the number of A-76 Contract employees has doubled under Obama! The size of the government is much larger under this misadministration–NOT SMALLER.!

Hillary has stated she would increase government regulation and increase taxes. Guaranteed show stoppers.

I won’t post the link since it isn’t from a credible source, to say the least but the title’s just too good not to pass along:

If only that were true…

Over the past 10 years the economy has grown at a snails rate of 2.3%. And I am not praising the GOP, the GOP leadership is in bed with the DNC.

Who said anything about the number of governemnt workers? I said they are doing better, much better today, than they were 10 years ago. The average government worker earns $51,000. This doesnt included all the benefits they get.

They might all be doing better if the US economy hadn’t suffered it’s worst crisis since the Great Depression during the Bush administration.
But obama said he could get us out of the ditch. It’s been 8 years, how much longer will it take? 20, 30, 100? I am suprised you didnt blame Reagan.

The Great Recession was a worldwide event and the US is doing reasonably well compared to most other countries. The US is not the only country that is still digging out after the recession, the worst since the Great Depression. Let’s compare unemployment among countries:

Japan 3.1%
Germany 4.2%
Norway 4.7%
United States 4.9%
United Kingdom 4.9%
Netherlands 6.1%
Sweden 7.6%
France 10.2%
Italy 11.6%
Spain 20%

The United Kingdom is already heading back into recession.

When Obama took office, I was facing a foreclosure and the loss of my small business of 10 years when the real estate market tanked. 2 terms later, my economic life, while not perfect, is SO MUCH BETTER. Economically, our country is better off. I thank Obama for shepherding us through the recession.

When obama took office I was earning $24 per hr. Now I am earning $16. I blame both Obama and congress for sending jobs overseas and importing cheap labor. But here is a fact. The economy has only grown at little more than 2% and to use the excuse that if it werent for Obama things would have been worse, prove it!

I would hardly call Obama a shepherd or a leader. He is a world traveller who never stops campaigning and enjoys the spotlight!

I agree. It sometimes amazes me what short memories some people can have. Because it’s hard to seriously make the argument that overall the economy is not better. Those who try I believe do so merely for political reasons. Like you said, things are not perfect. There is agreement across the aisle that more still needs to be done. But Obama certainly has led America out of the ditch. No question about that. One only needs to look at the unemployment rate between now and then as I believe it was Thorolfr who has shown that. And look at the number of jobs we were losing monthly prior to Obama. As Hillary has often said, President Obama doesn’t get enough credit for having steered the ship in a better direction. Sure there may be some who are working part time who would still prefer full time and wages are too stagnant. This though despite corporations having done quite well for much of Obama’s Presidency.

Wages though have been stagnant for yrs. Long before Obama.

And the housing market is better. My home’s market value has risen 62% since it’s low point.

Do these other countries include the long term unemployed in their statistics? They are excluded in your 4.9% figure for the USA.

Really need to compare trends and other data to make any sense of it.

I beg to differ, but then again it might depend on what part of the country you’re from given the way you dismiss the economic problems caused by Obama that you fail to see. Things are less than rosy financially in my neck of the woods in large part due to Obama’s policies.

Would you mind providing more details?

^ Hopefully public thanks and CAPITAL LETTER praise will prove to be an inoculation and prudent shelter against any future purges against capitalists and property owners – in America’s coming fundamental transformation. 😉

:hmmm: * Sometimes* little sheep are shepherded to be fleeced … or slaughtered!

I had personal experiences opposite of yours. Public sector job eliminated. Home equity gone. Underwater mortgage. Government plans to HELP me (and others) came with Catch 22s (YOU do not quite QUALIFY for THIS). Many former places of employment were soon shuttered early in the current administration’s run and remain industrial ghost towns. 🤷 More people are living in tents by the Santa Ana River bed than ever (*though that COULD be simply an enthusiasm for rugged individualism, thrift, a year round camping fad, or a social justice solidarity project … and striving for a measure of equality with those in the third world … I suppose) *

It was daunting disaster … that even seven plus years of the substantial Nobel Prize class genius leading us could not fix. :frighten: Glad someone is doing better though.

Never quite got the messiah thing … or the claim that he would stop the rise of the oceans however. But then when Jesus is your standard for shepherding … well … all others suffer in comparison.
Obama is my shepherd … I’m wan and gaunt
In green pastures he makes me lie down
for I did not qualify for his HARP plan.
To still waters he leads me …
yet disturbs my soul and persecutes my church.
He guides me along strange paths
for his namesake …
Even though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death I will fear no evil, for he is
with me … should I need doctor assisted suicide.
You set a table before me in the sight of my enemies
it appears to be a tax table … and I owe $300 for your
“free health care plan” I found I couldn’t enroll in or afford.
Your rod and staff comfort me < (… contort me?)
and my cup overflows. In fact nothing seems to work.
Indeed goodness and mercy pursue me all the days of my
life. Anyway I HOPE that’s “goodness and mercy”.
And I will dwell in the house of the Lowered, in endless daze.
PS: Per the thread title. 81%? :dts:
