“I could easily envision a scenario in which the FBI concludes there is enough evidence to make a case, but the DOJ prosecutors decide that the case is too weak to risk the legal precedent,” Bradley Moss, a lawyer who handles national security and secrecy issues, wrote in an email to The Hill.
“The DOJ career prosecutors are truly the ones who are under the microscope at this point.”
In the federal case against former CIA Director David Petraeus last year, FBI officials reportedly pushed for him to be indicted on felony charges, but then-Attorney General Eric Holder downgraded them to misdemeanors.
Yet Comey is no shrinking violet. If he is ultimately overruled by officials within the Justice Department, that is unlikely to remain a secret.
Potentially incriminating news has “a way of getting out,” said Whitaker.
“I would imagine ultimately we will know how the investigation was conducted or whether there was interference from the political folks at the Department of Justice,” he added.
“But I don’t know whether it will be in time to have an impact in an election year.”

I thought Petraeus was initially charged with felony violations and they were reduced to misdemeanors as part of the plea bargain for his pleading guilty. Since the process ruined his political aspirations, I wouldn’t object if Hillary’s case took the same route, ending with another presidential pardon. She wouldn’t be in the WH and it would serve as a warning to future leaders.

Couple of thoughts
  • I suspect the evidence of abuse by her team must be overwhelming, not sure how they could sweep it under the rug.
  • I doubt Bill wants to go back into the WH as the First Man. He’s already got the perks and doesn’t want the constant scrutiny again. Bill was probably begging her to take action. 😊
I tend to be suspicious of Bill Clinton when it comes to his behaviour on the campaign trail. Sometimes I wonder if he isn’t subconsciously trying to submarine his wife’s campaign. Spouses have been known to not be as supportive as they could be when a spouse might end up looking more successful then they are. A good example is when one goes on a diet and the other keeps bringing home cookies.

That thought has crossed my mind, too, Sally.

Today, Hillary was interviewed by the FBI for 3-1/2 hours. As a lawyer she knows that lying to the FBI is a crime that is prosecuted even against famous people, like Martha Stewart.

It must be really stressful for a Clinton to go 3-1/2 hours without lying. I doubt it could be done. When the investigation gets into the Clinton Foundation, Bill will also be a witness. One of the questions asked if it ever gets to trial would be, “Have you ever had your law license suspended for lying in a deposition?”

Earlier, the media were reporting that the interview would be done at Hillary’s home. Instead, they did it at FBI Headquarters, which is a better choice - take her out of her comfort zone, make sure that the interview can be recorded properly, reduce her ability to break away from the interview if questions become too probing because she has to pull some cookies out of the oven.

I am glad to hear she was not interviewed in her home. I hadn’t heard the location would be changed. I agree about her home being a comfort zone. I am sure she had her lawyer sitting next to her. I would sure like to have been a fly on the wall.
They sure are cutting this close to the convention.

Compared to Bush who started a disastrous war in Iraq and presided over the near melt down of our economy and Bill Clinton with his dalliance with Monica Lewinsky and his impeachment, Obama’s administration has been remarkably free of comparable disasters and scandals.
evidently you haven’t paid attention to what has happened in the Middle East since Obama became president and the rise in terrorism around the world and his jayvee team (ISIS or ISIL or DAESH) that has brought new horrors of what terrorists are caoable of not to mention the deadly attacks on our soil that have occurred about every year he has been in office.
Incompetent and not transparent are the best characteristics of this president as well as lowering everyone’s morale.

So you’re saying that an outside personal email account at say gmail or aol is a more secure way to send emails that might have classified information in them?

Colin Powell explains himself well enough, without pointing fingers at anyone.

On the other hand, I have no problem with Democrats dragging his name through the mud too. if that is what they really want to do, it in no way makes HRC smell any better to point out that Colin Powell is just as covered in pig manure as she now is.

She’ll definitely clean up all the pig manure well in the White House once she becomes President though. 👍

I guess Bill Clinton would be in the best position to know why HRC ought to be subverted, or at least why she may not be a good legacy to leave for the Clinton name in history.

At the moment, there is a good chance that history will record the legacy of Bill Clinton fondly. With a Hillary Clinton presidency becoming part of his legacy, what people will remember is not the good economic times and the telecommunications boom that thrust America to unprecedented heights, but the sleaze and the corruption that have always been the underbelly of Clintons in the WH.

A Hillary Clinton presidency will be there to remind future generations for all time what the Clinton era was really all about.

Well as Obama once reminded, you can put lipstick on a pig, but…🤷

And the thing about pig manure, like skunk, it is easy enough to clean it off, but the stank still remains long after the scrubbing removes all traces.

Well considering all of the elephant dung that Trump is buried under, it looks like Hillary will be breezing into the White house, much to your chagrin I presume. But let’s move past this manure talk can we. It serves no benefit to demonize and dehumanize Hillary as this and every political thread here seems to do. The fact remains that for the GOP these emails/Bengazi are the crux and leverage point to try and derail Hillary. (see Trump’s constant “Hillary should be in Jail” rants) but on the other side it seems to be a complete exaggeration and quite obvious over reaction. So while the facts are being debated, let’s stick with them shall we? The biggest one being House Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy saying that all this email scandal was simply about damaging Clinton’s poll numbers.

No he wouldn’t. Spouses have a biased view of their spouses, both positive and negative. I am sure if I asked your spouse about you, it would not be objective.
