Hipster Brother

Even as a Catholic Goth I’d have to say that your brother has gone quite a bit over the line in terms of involvement in that subculture. Although I don’t know how much immorality is “inherent” in the hipster culture, I don’t honestly think that it’s necessary to the worldview they have. I may be Goth, but I have a hipster bent for coffee shops and the arts. I think the danger with subcultures can be that some people participate in them out of pride to define themselves as “above the sheep” or to protect their wounded pride. On the flip side, detaching oneself from the mainstream of life can be beneficial, provided one replaces the negative trends with positive ones.

Does “L-train” have anything to do with the Lilith Fair? I hear a lot of hipsters congregate to acoustic women.

Hi WoundedIcon! I am a goth at heart.

Although I don’t goth out. I’m too old for that. My goth attire is more subtle.

Apparently not subtle enough for my kids who rolled their eyes at me when I recently bought some boots from T.U.K.

I mentioned this before but God led me to Catholicism through goth. I was doing a search on Christian goth and I found this site. There was a girl who was asking if it was okay to be Christian and goth. Once I found the site, I started reading other topics. God drew me to Catholicism through Catholic Answers.

But anyway, back to the topic, EtCetera. Your brother appears to be into the poly lifestyle as well an seems to be generally headed in the wrong direction. I don’t think that has to do with the hipster lifestyle per se.

Keep him in prayer and show him by example, what he is missing.
