Nice old moving pictures from the 1915 San Francisco World’s Fair. My grandparents on my mother’s side were married that year, and this is where they traveled for their honeymoon :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:. It’s personally awesome for me to see where they were 104 years ago!

I like the pews in the older churches, where you got a real seat to sit in.

Hey @Rob2, really liked those Russia photos you posted. My grandfather was part Russian and I have a great interest in that part of the world.

I did some SVP visiting yesterday and met a very interesting lady .

She had come here originally from Hull during WW2 . Hull was taking quite a hammering from German bombers and her family came here as evacuees , and returned to Hull after the war .

Together with London, Hull was the most heavily bombed city in the UK, with 95% of its houses damaged.

Her family returned here to make their home in the town , away from the bomb-damaged Hull . She said that their house in Hull was destroyed .

Some photos of the results of the Blitz on Hull . How fortunate I and my generation have been to live in a country free from war . We sometimes grumble about life , but looking at the past we need to count our blessings .

The B-25D Bomber my late uncle flew as copilot during World War II. They were stationed in Chakulia, India, hence the Indian soldier guarding the plane. They were shot down near Kewala, Burma (Myanmar) in December of 1943. Of the seven member crew, four died as a result of the plane crash, including my uncle . Three parachuted safely but were taken prisoner. Two of them died as POWs. One survived the war.

Christian East Beirut meets Muslim West Beirut on Martyrs’ Square in the heart of the city.
To the left, the Cathedral of Saint George of the Maronites. To the right, Muhammad Al-Amin mosque. This photo is titled “Beirut, mother of coexistence” and was circulated widely by pro-coexistance groups in Lebanon. Both structures suffered heavy bombing during the Lebanese Civil War, and have since been renovated and rebuilt.
