No one has ever said that unbaptized children go to the Hell of the damned. Since they have no actual (personal) sin, only original sin, they will not be punished with the pains of Hell.

The question is whether they go to Heaven, or some alternate “Limbo” where they experience natural happiness, but not the Beatific Vision. Limbo is not a bad place, it is a vaery, very good place.

If offered the option, all of us should sign up for Limbo right now, given the risks of going to Hell.

God Bless
Historically people did, and still do have fear about infants and children going to Hell. I have heard many Priests address this in their Homilies, and they have always reassured people that God, in His infinite wisdom and love provides for unbaptized children and infants, and children in general.

It’s a misunderstanding of what “Hell” means. Anyplace that is not Heaven is technically part of Hell. The OT faithful waited in Limbo Patrum (Abraham’s Bosom) for Christ’s death; that was part of Hell. Limbo means fringe, or the fringe of Hell.

But those parts of Hell are NOT the same as the Hell of the damned.

God Bless

Correct: and the reason for this is that Hell is a state of separation from God; since you can only be with God or separated from him (there is no middle ground) if you are not in Heaven, you’re in Hell. Whether or not you are in the Hell of the damned or not (as bilop correctly states) you are still in a part of Hell if you are separated from God.

Did he deserve to go to heaven? Did he make a death bed confession of his sins? Did it help that he committed suicide as his final act? Did he forgive his enemies?

If Hitler’s not in hell, I’ll eat my hat.
I think you shouldn’t worry about your hat:)

Jesus can forgive any sin and there is no number of sins he cannot forgive. But he does not HAVE TO forgive the sins. I think we can safely think about this only in the context of our personal repentance.

👍 Jesus reminded us that divine love transcends man’s interpretation of laws:
26 And they were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, “Who then can be saved?”
27 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”
Mark 10:26-27

I have never heard of Limbo as being the fringe of Hell. Anyway, if this is true, then it is no wonder I often feel like this life is part of Hell. Sometimes I think Hell would not have to be any worse than the endless trials we experience here. At least there is the hope of something better…that this is not a permanent condition. Heaven is what I hope for.

In a way it can be said that a person can experience a spiritual Hell on earth if that person is suffering complete, desolate isolation from God’s grace.

However, God never ceases to offer grace to our souls here on earth, and I don’t think it can be said that any person is callously abandoned by God here.

And please understand: the understanding that Limbo is on the fringe of Hell relies on the definition of Hell as a place of separation from God.
