So I have not been on the Forum in some time. I was a very excited Christian that was going through RCIA this past year. I went through the whole process all the way upto the week before I was to take the Sacrament and come into the Church then it was brought to my attention that my wife who is Catholic and I were not married in a Church but by the Justice of the Peace and that we would need to got to months of Catholic Marriage Classes and have our marriage blessed before I can fully come into the church. My wife and I have been married for over 10 years and have 4 kids so I was really taken back by the whole thing. I really wish that this would have been brought to my attention last October so that I could have taken both classes.

Now that being said I have strayed away and became frustrated with the whole thing especially since putting so much time into learning the faith. I wonder if I decide to try again do I need to go through the whole class again? Not to sound like a big baby but man I was so dissappointed and turned off by the whole thing, especially since the RCIA classes didn’t have much structure do to the fact the class was loaded with people that really had totally no idea about Christianity at all. I just pray that I get that fire inside me again to be as full as desire as before to come into the church and build up my faith.🤷

A month, a week,a year is such a short time compared to the rest of your life!

I totally understand your problems with RCIA. It’s hard when you feel like you know more than the other catechumens/candidates/teacher. A lesson in humility, my friend. As for your troubles with getting your marriage blessed, I’m so sorry.

Let me ask you, where are you going to church now? How does your wife feel about the situation? What do you want for your children as they get older?

If I were in your shoes I would sign up for the class. If you believe that the Catholic Church is the Church Jesus established, where else would you go? As Peter said, You alone have the words of eternal life, and we have believed you are the Holy One of Israel. The months you are going to spend in marriage class are going to pass no matter what. Why not spend them coming closer to full communion with the Church? If not, how will you spend them?

You just need to get your marriage convalidated so that it is recognized by the church. This can be a 10-minute ceremony and in most parishes, especially if you have been married for years already, you can arrange it in a week or two. It’s unusual that they would make you take pre-Cana classes in your situation. Speak with your priest.

I will tell you that In have only gone to church once since Easter and I do fill empty spiritually. As for my wife she can tell I was let down, she wants me to get back into it and suck it up in class, LOL she is Puerto Rican and super strong willed. My oldest son just took communion for the first time 2 weeks ago and my other 3 kids will be brought up Catholic. I believe I am having self made pity party. The truth is I found Christ only 3 years ago and when I did There was such a FIRE inside me. I though reading and praying finally left my little Non Denom church and started Learning about Catholicism and I was hooked. If I am being honest for me I know what I need to do, I just need to push myself and hunger for it the way I did. Just so blah lately…Sorry for being a negative whiner…Thanks for the words and advice…😃

I was thinking when I read your d first post that maybe God doesn’t want a “fire inside you.” Maybe this is His way of slowing you down, so that you come in after having stuck it out through a trial and have decided without emotion but in a quieter and sturdier faith that you really have no other place you want to be. So it takes a year. Where will you be in a year if you don’t?

TRUST Jesus. The fact is, someone should have asked about your marriage long before, maybe the HS clouded their thoughts so that this happened. Maybe this is exactly God’s Will for you.

I think we all need to throw ourselves a pity party once in a while, just so we get the chance to hear ourselves. I have one several times a day. :o

I would sit down and talk with your parish. You may have to go to the Catholic Marriage Classes…but maybe you can have a little leeway on RCIA or pick back up at Lent? Believe me…it is worth it:thumbsup:
