Ok, so I’m just over six weeks post-op from a total hysterectomy (plus removal of the ovaries.) At 33 I have been put instantly into what they call surgical menopause. It’s supposedly more intense as it is instant and my young age. Whatever. I’m thankful to God that my severe female pain is completely gone! :extrahappy:

However, I’m feeling totally useless. I still have to rest or even sleep 16-18 hours a day. It’s absolutely crazy. This isn’t laziness. This is I feel like I’m going to fall over if I don’t lay down tired. My Finromyalgia has kicked up all over body pain big time. I don’t know if the severe fatigue is menopause, Fibro or a combination thereof. My blood work is fine. Hormones are off, but they are working on those.

I do what little I can around the house between naps, but it’s not much. I was hoping to be able to go back to work in two weeks, so not happening. I don’t even feel safe driving yet. I want to excercise but just don’t have the energy. I need to shed some pounds, I’ve had to move up to size 24. I just feel exhausted, achy, fat, useless and on top of it in mourning complete loss of my dreams of childbearing. 😦

Even still all this is more manageable than the constant severe pain pre-surgery. I guess I just hoped for a full recovery, not a trade in of one set of symptoms for another. :o

Thanks for listening to my ramblings. Keep praying for me please. Please pray for my hubby too as he is working so very hard right now and has a job that is exhausting, long hours and not something he particularly enjoys. 😦 Thanks!

Please don’t be so hard on yourself. From where you are sitting 6 weeks is a long time but from a medical perspective it isn’t. Are there any support groups for people with your medical issue you could perhaps join? You might feel better if you have people who have been through it tell you it is common

Can you get some books on menopause from the library? Something with women’s stories of their experiences? You might find that encouraging.

Your body has gone through an incredible trauma. You were terribly unwell before your surgery and that could only have taken a tremendous toll that was exacerbated by an operation and removal of an organ that affects so many things in the body. And, as you remark, there is a psychological side to this that has its own enormous impact. Do be careful not to have unrealistic expectations. It is not as though the body can instantly spring back or the mind can instantly come to terms with sacrifices we have to make.

I have acquired medical situations and conditions over the years where, in one instance, I thought it was going to be a minor mechanical inconvenience and I was, rather, completely incapacitated for weeks on end, to my utter amazement. I won’t describe the ones where I have never been the same after. Be kind and gentle with yourself.

I assure you of my prayers…and I thank God that the horrific pain you were suffering has, at least, been resolved. May the Lord’s healing and comforting presence abide with you and help you in this time of convalescence.

Praying for you. It can take at least eight weeks to recover from that surgery. Be patient with yourself. I hope you feel better soon.
Make sure you see your doctor on a regular basis.

That fatigue, discouragement, and frustration hit me about 3 weeks out from my surgery. I was older than you and anemic, and alone. Crying on the phone to one of my girlfriends and she said, “You have had MAJOR SURGERY.” I knew that, of course, but I suppose I thought it would be a straight line road to feeling better each day. Sometimes though, there are plateaus we hit. The body as it heals is breaking down scar tissue and rebuilding new healthy tissue. Takes a lot of energy, good nutrition, and rest to help the process along. And simply time itself. This too shall pass. :yup:

This^^^^.
It will get better. Be patient, and use the time for spiritual and recreational reading.
Enjoy a sunrise by the window, listen to good music, and pray for others.
Be assured of our prayers.

Also: call the parish and ask for a visit by an Extraordinary Minister. Holy Communion will strengthen you. :heaven:

Trust your body, Don’t push healing; it will come in Our Lord’s time.
Praying for your recovery,

.

Thanks for all the encouragement and prayers! I don’t know what I’d do without them! :grouphug:

I am sorry to hear you had to have such a major surgery at such a young age. I suffered for many years with female issues and was constantly anemic. I didn’t have the severe pain you experienced and at one point I practically begged for a hysterectomy, but I was too anemic for them to operate. I was a single Mom of one and also didn’t really have time for post op or anyone to help take care of me. So I prayed menopause would hurry and come. I thought I would have lots of energy after menopause at 55. I was so happy I would not be anemic anymore. But I never got the energy I was hoping for. I was tired, depressed and lacked the self confidence I once had.
Your surgery has been a shock to your body removing the uterus and ovaries and I would definitely talk to your doctor about the symptoms you are having. I know psychologically it is hard to know your dreams of childbearing are over, but God has a plan for you.
Praying that your fatigue will lessen and be more manageable and you will feel like driving again soon and getting out of the house some.
The good thing is you won’t have to deal with that terrible pain anymore.
praying for your husband too with his job and the long hours he is working. Praying for your full recovery soon and healing.

My daughter in law had a hysterectomy some months ago, and was very uncomfortable for several weeks afterwards. I’d say t was three months before she felt okay and six months before she was “back to normal” - so take it easy, and you will start to feel better.

In the meantime take care of yourself and enjoy a bit of down time…

Give it time.
I know someone who had to have a hysterectomy due to cancer and she was only 20 years old at the time. It took about two years for things to settle down. It may be different for you but it does take time for things to sort themselves out.
