From Fox News:
Hobby shop chain faces backlash for stance against ObamaCare
Oklahoma-based Hobby Lobby filed the suit Sept. 12 in U.S. District Court in Oklahoma City, alleging that the ObamaCare mandate violates the religious beliefs of the company’s owners. The suit followed similar suits by Catholic colleges and a Denver-based company whose owners also objected to the mandate on religious grounds. While a judge has not yet ruled on Hobby Lobby’s suit, a Facebook page calling for a boycott of the company, which operates 500 stores in 41 states, has appeared online, and several other forums have featured posts urging customers to steer clear of Hobby Lobby.
I think Catholics should make a point to frequent Hobby Lobby to make up for those boycotting. And I know they are Baptists but we should show are support for them.

I dunno… a Facebook page and some online forum posts doesn’t sound like much of a boycott threat. There doesn’t seem to be any organized effort.

Boycotts are hard to pull off. You have to really motivate people, and keep them motivated. I just can’t imagine people getting excited about a lawsuit challenging the contraception mandate in Obamacare. The issue is too removed from people’s daily lives and what they experience.

I was there last week and purchased a stencil and a cutitng/draft board for laying duct tape on, so I am doing my part.

I like Hobby Lobby’s stance on closing on Sundays and early enough for employers who are parents to tuck in their kids for bed. I’m not much of a scrapbook hobbyist, and it’s not the type of “hobby shop” that has model planes or train engines, so I doubt I’ll be in there often, but if I have to buy a craft-related item for my kids’ school projects, and if it’s a choice between the Hobby Lobby or the Michael’s on the other side of Tatum Boulevard, I will go with Hobby Lobby. Maybe I’ll buy some gift cards there for Christmas for the ladies in my office instead of the usual Starbucks gift cards.

I doubt there will be many financial problems for the company. Did you know there has been a “gay boycott” of both Target and Best Buys for years now? Neither do most people nor did I until recently. I doubt most people who shop at any of those businesses care.

Evangelical Protestants view abortion in the same light as does the Catholic Church. They are rabidly opposed to it. When you add all of the Evangelicals and the Catholics in the US together, they come close to being a majority of the population.
Arts and Crafts are the most popular hobby in the US, and Hobby Lobby is the giant amongst the companies that sell art and craft materials. In many cases they have the only store of this kind in any community and for many miles around. I doubt some little pis-ant pro-choice site on you-tube will have any effect on their business. In all probability that site is just a few college wise-guys seeking power, or they are the paid minions of Planned Parenthood, which is a huge multi-billion dollar industry.

Hobby Lobby has no direct competition in many markets. We have Michaels here in Texas but they don’t have anywhere near all the stuff HL has. The only way a boycott works is if there is a reasonable alternate where you will spend those same $$. Anyone who is truthfully offended that HL doesn’t want to pay for thier birth control and abortions was probably already mad that they were closed on Sundays. 😉

We will have to drive out of our way to get to the closest one, but my husband and I both said that the next time we need stuff for our hobbies we will go there to support them.

I will go out of my way to support any business that opposes Obamacare, regardless of their reason for it. I can’t think of anything I need to buy from Hobby Lobby, but I’ll take a look.

Maybe I’m stereotyping but
The people who ‘boycotted’ Chic-Fil-A were not CFA customers to begin with, so no harm done. I think the same goes for Hobby Shops; their customers are much more likely to be family oriented and sympathetic to their position, if not outright Christian.

They actually do have a decent selection of static plastic models (cars, planes, military) as well as some train stuff. I’ve bought some odds and ends from there over the years (couple of M4 tank kits, some plane kits), usually when my wife is looking at other stuff. 🙂

It’s time to band together. There’s strength in numbers. The other side acts like it’s their activist mission. I try to support small businesses. It decreases the money funnel to the giants who are under media control.

Supporting Hobby Lobby is going to be a stretch for me because I can’t stand the place. It’s like trying to dig through a garage sale. The employees that my local store hires are rude, unmotivated to help, and have no idea what products their store sells, where they are located, or what they are supposed to be used for. Frankly, I don’t feel that there’s one among them that works hard enough to deserve any insurance at all.

They have alot of neat gifts in the home decorating section. Wear a mask if you are allergic to dust.

Whenever any business takes a stand on an issue, they’re going to gain fans and turn others away. The owners and stockholders have to look at the risks/rewards and decide if they want to make that stand, and then the consumer gets to decide whether to support it with their money.

If we socialized the entertainment industry instead of healthcare, families would have their entire entertainment budget to use to buy health insurance.

I have no idea how that relates to anything I posted…but have a great day! 👋
