Holy Cross College Hosts on-Campus Planned Parenthood Workshops, Awards Pro-Abortion Governor

Yet another Jesuit run college violating Catholic Church teaching
By Peter J. Smith

WORCHESTER, Massachusetts, September 28, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Jesuit-run Holy Cross, the oldest Catholic college in New England, is hosting the 2007 Teen Pregnancy Institute with Planned Parenthood promoting teenage contraception.

The Massachusetts Alliance on Teen Pregnancy presents the conference every year, but by hosting the conference the Holy Cross Jesuits are sending the message that they have no qualms with its promotion of contraception and the presence of Planned Parenthood, which are intrinsically inimical to the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church.

At this year’s conference - scheduled October 24, from 8AM - 4 PM - “Messages that Matter: Strengthening Prevention and Supporting Young Families,” Planned Parenthood is scheduled to give 3 “workshops”; one of which includes a seminar on how to “Learn the latest and greatest of protection methods.” (see copy of brochure massteenpregnancy.org/pdfs/2007_conf_brochure.pdf)

The relationship between Jesuits and Catholic teaching appears to be the same as the relationship Garrison Keilor moted between newspapers and truth. It is the same as the relation between the number 8 and the color green. You may occasionallly find them together, but don’t let that give you any expectations for the future. 😦

Sickening! I can’t believe that this is allowed to happen. Why can’t the bishops enact discipline against schools like this?

Because of the same reason Catholics vote for pro abortion politicians:

The Spirit of Vatican II.

It’s well past time for the Jesuits to be suppressed again.

Oh come on! You can’t honestly say that Vatican II is responsible for this. I get so sick of people bashing Vatican II. Yes, some bad came out of Vatican II but some good came out of it as well.

At this point, it is time for the bishop to step in, cancel this nonsense, and tell this college that if they continue in this manner, they can no longer call themselves a Catholic college. This is such blatant, in-your-face behavior against the teaching of the Church, and it is a perfect time for a bishop to stand up for the Church.

I agree I’m a newish Catholic and sometimes I wonder what kinda Church I joined :banghead:

For Holly:

Vatican II: Council that brought about a lot of good.

Spirit of Vatican II: Thing Liberals use to chip away at the teachings of the church exploiting peoples ignorance of what VII really teaches hoping to finally prevail. Some days I fear for Catholicism in America…

Oh okay. Thanks for clearing that up for me. My apologies. :o

they can no longer call themselves a Catholic college. .
I once called Holy Cross a Catholic college, and was immediately corrected.

“It’s NOT Catholic, it’s JESUIT” was the response.

Then I went there for 4 years, and found out that it’s true. It’s 100% Jebbie.

And I’d like to thank the administration at Holy Cross for constantly giving me excellent reasons NOT to donate to my alma mater.

Just look at the money I’ve saved…😃

(BTW, for anyone who plans on writing, it’s Worcester, not Worchester. No H.)

Well said. It is the “spirit” of Vatican II that has to be turned back in time. And I also fear for the Catholic Church in the USA and Canada.

In my personal opinion, this would not have happened without Vatican II.

BTW are the things that I have read about Holy Cross College true or not?
  1. They invited a pro-abortion speaker, Chris Matthews, to give a commencement address, and said that they were proud of him and that the pro choice position is arguable within Catholic theology.
  2. They had students participated in the showing of the V_monologues on Ash Wednesday.
  3. Upon entering Holy Cross it is found that about 50% or less of the students believe that artificial birth control is OK. After four years of Catholic Jesuit theology at Holy Cross colege, it is found that about 95% of the students think that artificial birth control is OK.

Apparently Bishop McManus has stepped in and advised Holy Cross to dis-invite Planned Parenthood and NARAL. At least some of the bishops take their responsibilities seriously even if many of our Catholic schools do not.

Ender,
Thank you for posting this. It’s comforting to know there are bishops in the U.S. who are still willing to stand up for Church teaching. At least we know who we can look to for leadership. We need to pray for him and those like him.

Bishop Warns College May Lose Catholic Name for Not Cancelling Pro-Abortion Groups in Conference
Jesuit priest president of College of the Holy Cross ignores bishop, defends inclusion of Planned Parenthood and NARAL workshop

WORCESTER, Massachusetts, October 11, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Worcester’s Catholic bishop, Bishop Robert J. McManus, has issued a frank condemnation of the decision by the local Jesuit-run College of the Holy Cross to rent their facilities for a conference featuring NARAL and Planned Parenthood workshops.
Bishop McManus has issued a scathing statement confirming that he has requested that college President, Rev. Michael C. McFarland rescind the invitation based on the conference’s fundamental differences with Catholic moral teaching.

…“To deny Planned Parenthood and NARAL Pro-Choice a forum in which to present their morally unacceptable positions is not an infringement of the exercise of academic freedom but a defensible attempt to make unambiguously clear the Catholic identity and mission of the College of the Holy Cross.”

Methinks those people at the college had better make up thier minds as to what they want to be: Jesuit academics or faithful Catholics.

So sad that an order like the Jesuits, with such a history of doing good for the Church, has sunk so low into the morass of ambiguity and relativism.

Blessings,

Gerry

Yet another example of the Spirit of Vatican II.

Yes. Of course, Holy Cross college, Worchester, MA is a Jesuit college. According to the following article: the Jesuits are “a corrupt club for homosexual dilettantes and anti-papal dissenters.” and “Garry Wills’ article about the book “Passionate Uncertainty: Inside the American Jesuits” appears in the New York Review of Books under the title, “Jesuits in Disarray.””

The Jesuits lately sound more like “reform Jews” or members of the “United Church of Christ” than they do Catholics!
