Am I on ignore:p
Post #245.

It appears that you say it is okay, as per scripture, to give the title “Father” to those who are our spiritual Fathers?

But it also appears that you have judged the term “holy Father” a vain title, and not a spiritual one?

Would that be correct?

I suspect you are having great fund posting nonsense again and again to this thread and seeing the reaction you get but you should be aware that in Private Messages people are laughing themsleves silly at what you are posting here.
.
Deaf ears and blind eyes will never see truth!
BTW-I have also received seveal PMs from Protestants embarassed at what you are posting and wondering of you are a Catholic posing as a Protestant to make Proestants look stupid. I said I doubted is as you seem to be ignorant of both faiths.
If they truly felt I was in the wrong they should do the scriptural thing and approach me person to person, and point out my error using scripture…Seeing as no one has, I am inclined to disbelief in your comment

Since several Protestants have already diagreed with your view on this why should it it suprise you that you are embarraisng them? I am enbaraased for them.

You have yet to answer why you and Marty, both of whom claim to read Scripture, both of whom claims the Spirit will guide them to the truth, have come to opposite opinions on this issue. How do you reconcile this? Is you power of interpertaion better than Martys OR does the Spirit give out differing version of the truth?

Perhaps we can get Comedy Central to cover it.
…we should give him a fair chance to place his argument… While I have no worries about whether or not he can show where there was an error in faith and morals, it is still a fair question.

Again, by what authority does your interpretation of scripture trump the consistent witness of the Church, other Bible passages that speak of spiritual fatherhood and sonship you’ve chosen to subjugate to Matthew 23 in a complete misunderstanding of that passage, and the witness of other non-Catholic churches who share with us in the practice of referring to our priests as ‘father’?

By what authority do you deem to correct us for this sin that isn’t really a sin?

With respect to whether the Catholic Church (and the churches that share our practice in this matter) are authentically Christian: are you saying that we’re only good Christians if we don’t follow the customary practices of our respective churches? After all, you’ve said that if we do, we’re sinners… :hmmm:
As i said before I use the same authority to understand scripture as you used to determine the catholic church was the correct church…
My imperect one.

Ah, I see. It appears that you believe that God has given you the ability to read the hearts and minds of other Christians, as well as the ability to infallibly interpret scripture and bind the conscience of other Christians with your interpretations. That’s mighty interesting… :hmmm:

Really, we’re simply deaf to johnny-come-lately interpretations of scripture that ignore the entire context of the Bible, the context from which the Bible arose, and the witness of Christians throughout history.

By the way, I recall reading somewhere in one of your other posts that your user ID refers to Martin Luther. I’ve found this interesting section in a Wikipedia webpage on Luther:
After 8:00 p.m., he experienced chest pains. When he went to his bed, he prayed, “Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God” (Ps. 31:5), the common prayer of the dying. At 1:00 a.m. he awoke with more chest pain and was warmed with hot towels. He thanked God for revealing his son to him in whom he had believed. His companions, Justus Jonas and Michael Coelius, shouted loudly, “Reverend father, are you ready to die trusting in your Lord Jesus Christ and to confess the doctrine which you have taught in his name?” A distinct “Yes” was Luther’s reply.
Apparently, Luther had no objection to the title of ‘father.’ :hmmm:

I see… but you’re certain that your interpretations are correct, and ours are not, and yet, you say your interpretations are imperfect? Which are they - correct, or imperfect? And if they’re imperfect, then you’ve just shot your entire argument in its foot.

Did you ever read “The Hobbit” If so do you remember the creatures that turned to stone becuase the sun hit them? nough said

So no one knows what Scripture means? All that stuff you told us about the indwelling of the Spirit in you and your certainty that he revealed to you the truth was a lie?

Have i ever claimed you guys were not Christian??? NO!
I do however think your church is wrong on this issue and if a brother sins another brother out of love should confront him. Did not Paul correct Peter, out of love?
Now I realise I’ll likely not change most regarding the elitist title “Father” but prayerfully some will give it the consideration it is due.
We do not consider the title Father “elitist”. We consider it an address of familial love and respect, as in “honor thy father . . .”

I see… but you’re certain that your interpretations are correct, and ours are not, and yet, you say your interpretations are imperfect? Which are they - correct, or imperfect? And if they’re imperfect, then you’ve just shot your entire argument in its foot.
Exactly!

As I’ve been keeping up with the thread mainly thru the email notifications, perhaps I’ve missed it.

But did anyone mention THIS article about history of the usage of “father” in America? Apparently protestants stopped using the term when Irish immigrants began using it for Catholic priests, which until then, in the US, did NOT use the title.

If it was brought up already, I apologize.😛

I think I made it too!
Yes it appears that he has dug a hole that he does not wish to acknowledge he is in.

Scripture shows the use of the word Father being used for spiritual fathers. So he now must show that our usage of Holy Father is for vain purposes rather than a familial and spiritual usage.

So instead of just confronting this head on, ignore seems to be the solution.

But I can’t even get him to say that this is what he does mean.

Father is okay for a spiritual use? But Holy Father is vain because…?

Ah well, you are in good company:D

I haven’t noticed it. If it was mentioned it was a while back, so it won’t hurt to post it again:thumbsup:
