Holy Fire in Jerusalem: true or false?

Faith is different for us all. I myself, would weep if I witnessed such a thing, and felt his presence. I think those things are truly what hold the Catholic and Orthodox churches together.

Some can use these type of things to add to their faith, and some do not need such. I envy the latter. 🙂

I think that there a few points to the Miracle of Holy Fire.

One is that the Orthodox Church there has been persecuted by the Jews, by the Romans, by the Muslims, by the Crusaders, by the Muslims again and now by both the Jews and Muslims - so one of the points is to bring comfort to the people. After all, the Holy Spirit is said to be Our Comforter in Sacred Scripture. Another point is that it confirms the date of Pascha. Another point is that it confirms that the Holy Spirit is still active within the Orthodox Church. And the main point is that there IS A GOD and He Loves us!

I am sorry that this has been your experience.

People (being the fallen creatures they are) tend to do that sort of thing. I recall a thread regarding Marian apparitions where the same claim was aimed in the opposite direction.

It is sad that these things, which should serve to unite us and strengthen our resolve, become a source of division instead.

We are reminded, as well, that something very special happened right there, in that place.

The evidence for it has not been adequately explained, nor adequately explained away by modern sciences.

The body of a man came to life, and charged with this life, this supernatural enlivening spiritual energy seems to have made it’s mark on the Holy Shroud.

If anyone were to think the Holy Fire and the image on the shroud are somehow connected phenomena, I would not be surprised one bit.

Of course this is all conjecture.

I guess that I put it in the same category as weeping statues. If it is true, fine. If it helps the faith of someone, even better. But, it does not hit me with the same force as the Truth of Jesus’s miracles. Almost all of them include the message to repent and follow him.

This one, like the weeping statues, does not.

I think it’s a miracle. Take away all the stupid scuffling, bun fights and inter-church pettiness, and reducing the event to it’s basis, it is either a miracle or it isn’t.

If it cannot be explained naturally, then it is a miracle.

the Catholic Church and the Orthodox are so close as to almost be totally reconciled. its not a matter if the priest is Catholic or Orthodox. it is whomever God has Chosen to work thru. eventually we will be one communion again. God hasten that day.Peace be with you.:signofcross:
