Our church was packed. It seats 650 people and there were several standing at the back as well. It was gratifying to see so many young people, teens and elementary school kids in attendance. The Mass was so beautiful. Father’s homily was long, almost 20 minutes, but it was absolutely brilliant and one of the most powerful I have ever heard… I think we must have set a parish record for the amount of kleenex used because throughout the homily tears were flowing copiously everywhere I looked! The incense was used copiously too. It seemed to waft about the nave constantly throughout the Mass and even this morning during the Stations, there was still a fairly strong smell of it in the church.
The Pange Lingua was sung in Latin during the procession. The commitee room at the church is not large enough to accomodate many people so the Blessed Sacrament was reposed at the end of the procession back on the main altar. As Father and the servers knelt in adoration, we sang Tantum Ergo, again in Latin. They remained at the foot of the altar for several minutes and the silence was deafening. Finally, they processed out of the nave. Some people left right after but the majority of people stayed for at least 10 minutes and then left quietly. I left after half an hour because I needed to see the pastoral minister about business regarding the Easter Vigil . The church was still at least half full. I returned 20 minutes later and stayed until midnight when adoration ended. I didn’t take a count but there were at least 50 others still there. Father came back in his cope and carried the Blessed Sacrament to the small chapel in his rectory.
