my bedroom shrine is a work in progress, so far i put two mid thigh height bookshelves ( i’m about 5’8") together and placed a book of world records over the spot where they meet( to elevate the bible from the table. i put a big white tablecloth over it. I have on the center a cross against the wall (will put up a crucifix when i find a nice one) with my scapular draped over it and a shiny rock i found holding the cross up next i have my grandmothers kind james bible on top of some gold foil like stuff.my local craft store sold me two glass votive holders which are on either side of the cross i also have a brass cross pendant to the left and a peace crane the right of the cross ( in front of votive holders). then to the left i have big origami peace crane ( i pray for peace on earth) then i have this black thing thats supposed to be used to heat scented oil with a dragon on the front to hold holy water ( represents saint george one of my patron saints) and by that i have a prayer card of archangel micheal and a palm cross from palm sunday i also have a half of a geode rock. to the right of the elevated area i have an empty spot i want to put a statue of the blessed virgin either, fatima or guadelupe or our lady of graces. i want to get a divine mercy statue as well. i have an incense burner over there also. all the altars/shrines i have seen are excellent and beautiful does anyone know where to find a crucifix for under 20 dollars? also is it apropriate to burn stick incense in any smell i use lavender, allspice, and a sage thing but am thinking of also using strawberry and vanilla stick? congrats on the relic to the poster before me. :signofcross:

My mom picked them up for my birthday. She found them in Pa… The best part is she got them for free.👍 The owner said the foil was damaged and could not resale them! Anyway my birthday is in October if you want to pick me up another one.😃

God Bless,
DCD

I kneel on a pillow. I am going to build me a nice altar/kneeler this summer.
I think it is called an Oratory?

Danke! 😉

I’m currently studying in Baden-Wuerttemberg, so I’m keeping mah eyes peeled!
Ich pflegte, in Karlsruhe als ein Kind zu leben! Mein Vater war in der amerikanischen Bundeswier. Wir lebten dort von 1974 - 1978. Ist mein Deutsch noch gut?

@That one guy: can you provide larger photos??? It looks beautiful, but I wish I could see it better! 🙂

I will see what I can do. I have to admit that I have moved since I took those pictures and so it is under revision as I want it to be an oratory cabinet/desk/shrine/thing. Altar is sort of a misnomer. The altar is in the church. Pagans have altars at home. But, we cannot consecrate a host at home. So, technically, it is not an altar.
I like how yours has evolved over time, also.
Everybody’s are so cool. Even just as art. 👍

I heard a priest once say, that it should be done with care and not too cramed with things, or over done. Tastefully done is one thing to keep in mind, and I think the pics look very tastefully done.
It’s not a “sacrificial” altar as for mass. It helps us to focus, to be reminded God is waiting to hear from us. It is an out ward sign to visitors and family members.
I know when I first started to do this, it took a little while to get past my anxiety of others. But now, most of my pictures in house are faith related. My son walked in one day and said…oooooh this place has all sorts of blessings. If you knew my son, it was pretty funny, struggles from damage done. But it is good for him to witness. He hangs anything I give him up in his room, when he has had really bad times, the prayer beads are nervously sought after, even if just to put in his pocket. Pray for Logan. He surely would be a wonderful testament and witness if healed and converted. Altars and sacramentals are awsome to help all grow closer and to protect us. You might enjoy reading up on having your home Enthroned!! Very, very cool!!.

I just got a statue from my great-grandmother of the sacred heart. It is about two feet tall as compared to my old 10 in. statue. I am soooo excited!!! It’s been in my family for generations!!!

Here is a close up. Some great-great-great relative of mine picked it up in mexico and it’s been in the family since. I am having a good friend restore and repaint it.

This is my old statue (above) compared to my great-grandmothers (below)

On the Feast of the Sacred Heart, I am bringing it to mass after the restoration and have it solmnly blessed by Fr. E. FUN!!!

This is the statue we just got our Godson for his first communion. He wants it in his room. the parents would like it on the home altar. He will probably decide to share it with them.

I think that the word ‘altar’ is a misnomer. Only Catholic Churches have altars. They are tables upon which the Holy Sacrifice occurs. I prefer the term “home shrine” or just simply ‘shrine’. I hate to be picky about such matters but there is a definite reason as to why it is not an altar.

sir WE KNOW it is called a shrine but most people use the term altar so deal with it
