Wow! Very cool!
I don’t really have a ‘home alter’ more just a shelf, but everyone’s displays are so lovely!

Mine is more of a Marian shrine. It is in my bedroom. Sorry my webcam is very blurry.

I think it looks good and is a good reminder of the BVM. If I may offer a suggestion for your shrine, you should add, in that empty spot in the middle of the shrine, a large crucifix or a large statue of Our Lady (of Graces, of Fatima, &c.,)

God bless!

I have a Fatima statue 🙂 (I wish my webcam was clearer) but thanks for the tip. When I go to Rome in November I hope to get a Sacred Heart of Our Lady picture. 👍

I want to share with y’all my altar. I posted it before when i had all the images covered for Holy Week. Here it is now, I kinda cut back on some of the images that I had up before and now I use this to pray the rosary and Liturgy of the Hours every day. If you are wondering, the four things at the base of the altar, those are four first class relics of various saints and blesseds. The prayer card near them is a 3rd class relic of the True Cross.

Please offer any suggestions on what I should add to this since I love using this to center myself around God.

I finally got a statue of Our Lady of Walsingham for my shrine. I was exspensive since I had to send to England to get it, but well worth it. So now I have OL of Lourdes. Mount Carmel, and Fatima. Also Sts Francis. Anthony, and St Patrick. Next addition will be St Pio.

I wanted to thank everyone for sharing your beautiful home altars/shrines. Because of you all, I was inspired to create my own, and I feel totally blessed, because of your uploads and google imaging, that is how I found this website!! I’m still to new, so I guess I’m not able to attach a photo yet of my work in progress. I discovered that since I erected my shrine, I feel so much closer to Jesus, Our Blessed Mother and the saints. It’s so relaxing to have a place to reflect, pray and even cry after a long day of caring for that autistic son of mine! Thanks to all for giving me the inspiration and many ideas for my own. 🙂

Wow, I was brought up in a church where there was nothing except a plain wooden cross and candle sticks and they were changed to brass cross and candlesticks for services, things at home were not encouraged and sometimes frowned apon, admittly it was an Anglican church but I always dreamt of having a cross and a picture of Jesus at home to guide my thoughts and prayers :). At one time, in my teenage years, I had a palm cross and attacted it to the wall above my bed :), although my mum collected these all up and gave them back to the Vicar the following year. 😦

This thread has brought back lovely memories and future wishes. Thank you.

No you are not . An altar is for the celebration of the Eucharist .

Whatever you are making is not an altar . Please read the link below .

Petronus, what if SacredHeartfan’s bishop comes to visit and grants himself permission to celebrate the holy sacrifice of the mass on it? Then it would become a real altar forever. For now, then, we have to admit it’s at least a potential altar. 😉

To nuture your future wishes, how about finding something like this below? They come in various designs with all kinds of images. Easy to use, move or pop into a drawer if you need to be discreet. No need to deny yourself a beautiful image to inspire you with things like this around! 🙂 One of the beauties of the Catholic faith is the rich iconography to help focus mind and soul. This one below is 10" tall, but there are smaller ones easily found. (Try that well-known on-line auction site. ;))

Thank you for the idea, I didn’t know you could buy things like that. I am definatly going to get one of those or something simular, I hope to get a wooden cross aswell. I agree some of the pictures connected with the Catholic Church are truely beautiful.

My brother thinks I shouldn’t have anything to do with the Catholic Church because of the sex scandals and because Guido Faulks was Catholic and he committed treason because he tried to blow up the houses of parlament (I live in england) so whatever I do will be small and personal, so I respect my families beliefs as well, as they are all protestant. 🙂
