I thought to create ANOTHER thread on home shrines, prayer shrines, family altars or however else one chooses to call ones own little prayer space for the home. A little something to bring in some beauty to this forum that has of late been hit with alot of negative spiritual crisis of faith posts (of which I am guilty of creating too 😉 )

If you have a home shrine and would like to post pics of it or if you want to re-post the pics again, then please do so. By all means write a description of your home shrines too. Time for some beauty folks! 😃

There is a wonderful small booklet called “Building Home Shrines: Bringing Catholic Culture into our Homes & Schools” amazon.com/Building-Home-Shrines-Bringing-Catholic/dp/0978629310/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203468403&sr=8-10that I came across while surfing the net.

I also highly recommend another site called Mary’s garden at mgardens.org since I love the idea of having a Mary garden in my own home.

I created a tiny Mary Garden in my room but since the blooming period for the flowers has passed I have moved the plants to another room. When they start blooming again I will set up the Mary garden once more.

In case you’re curious here is what my Mary Garden looked like when the flowers where in full bloom.

I am thinking to try something I saw on the Mary’s Garden website called an “Indoor Mary Dish Garden” that I can maintain all year around as a Home Shrine.

Here’s an example of one from the Mary’s Garden website.

I am also getting the itch to create a faux grotto that I can build using chicken wire, plaster and a few rocks to add a touch more realism. I hope to go later in the week to Home Depot and see what advice they can give me for making it. I am being the MAD home shrine scientist now . lol

Hope to see some Home Shrine pics!

Peace

Your home shrine is beautiful.

I have a corner in my bedroom, right beside my nightstand. A corner table, with a celtic cross, picture of Our Lady of Guatlupe, Sacred Heart of Jesus on the wall…a candle holder that holds about five votives, then a picture of our Lady with the Angels, and Our Lady of Grace Statue.

Oh, and pressed dogwood blooms in the corners of my pictures…

guess that I need to take a picture, huh?

All my prayer books stacked under my table.

I do like that idea of dish garden, that is neat!

I love the pictures you posted. I would be so inspired to stand before them!

Right now I just have a table with a cloth covering and a mixed collection of pictures. A picture of Mary with the baby Jesus, one of Jesus and a statue of Mary. I have a bowl with all of my Rosaries (a girl can’t have just one), and a couple of plants and a candle.

After seeing what you’ve done, I want to go home and put more thought into what I’m presenting on that table.

Thank you for sharing them.

Hey I dont know if you saw my thread, but I want to say that I really like the way the light is behind the crucifix, it looks really cool!!! So anyway heres mine:

Here is the whole thing:

Crucifix and Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Grace

My Bible

Pope JPII !!!

My Grandpa’s card they passed out at his funereal and Holy Water

Don’t have a picture of mine yet, will take one and hopefully some one will tell me how to get my picture posted here, I am not smart with all that stuff. Anyway our altar is on top of a dresser, we have a candle holder of the Sacred Heart, a picture of the Divine Mercy with the Consecration to the Divine Mercy prayer in front of it, a beautiful porcelain statue of Our Lady of Fatima that I ordered at market, a painted sterling silver picture of Padre Pio, a framed picture of Our Lady of Good Success, a beautiful marble statue of the Sacred Heart, a bottle of Holy Water and rosaries.

Here’s what I threw together recently (with help of the Holy Spirit). The “icons” were printed off the internet onto card stock. Someday I’d like to get a real San Damiano crucifix and a statue of the Virgin Mary. I tend to be picky though, and most saccharine images of Jesus and Mary creep me out…

Let me give this a try…

Very pretty, Dana. It’s different but in a good way, like a breath of fresh air. 🙂 Is that Our Lady of Guadalupe on the left wall?

Aww…thanks.

Yes, It is OLG. It’s needlepoint, I won it at church!

My little table is short and I just sit or kneel in the corner, look up and see Jesus looking over me…I like it!

Here, closer picture:

Oh how lovely all of these are! Just what I needed, to lift my spirits this evening (after a particularly hard day… caring for mother).

I don’t know how to post a photo of ours… but I can describe it. We have a 20 inch statue of Our Lady of Fatima, standing on an antique, white plant stand. She wears a gold crown, and holds a tiny, crystal Rosary. She stands in a corner, and the base is decorated with flowers of the season (although, it is bare right now… for Lent). To her left… is a framed picture of Our Lord Jesus, in the Divine Mercy. To her left, a copy of the “Magnificat”. We don’t use real candles, because of the danger. We have an electric candle, below the stand… which we keep on, at night.

If anyone can give me a quick “lesson” on how to post ours, I’d love to do that. If I took a snapshot with my phone, could I post it that way? We don’t have a digicam.😊

Promises Thanks for your description of your prayer table and you are right, a girl just can’t have one rosary! lol I have so many rosaries that I have lost count. 😉 I am sure your prayer table is lovelier than you described and there is nothing wrong with becoming a MAD home shrine scientist (I am proud to be one LOL) and adding extra touches here and there. You’re very welcome. 🙂

SacredHeartFan I have that same exact picture of John Paul The Great! I love him so very much! The light is actually a “grow light” for plants 😉 but I am glad you liked the light effect on the cross. Your statues have such cute faces. I think I may get a bible stand like you have (my pockets are crying due to my spending the bucks on religious items lol). I think it is very touching that you have your Grandpa’s card in your shrine.

CatholicCajun You don’t have to be smart to create something that comes from the heart. I am sure that the purest of prayers that come straight from the heart are of more value than all of the shrines in the world! Thanks for the description. 🙂

BennyBoy89 I love the first pic of your home shrine. 😃 It looks so ethereal (I think that’s right word for it). The candles give off such a warm and inviting glow around the icons.

DJgang I love your home shrine it is so sweet. I especially love the Our Lady of Grace statue. Thank you for taking the time to take a picture and posting it for all of us. 🙂

Well I LOVE JPII!!! He is my patron (not my name though!😃 ) I pray to him all the time, and even if they don’t cannonize him (yea right) I still call him St. Pope John Paul II The Great! And that stand was actually 2 bucks at walmart! 😃 It is supposed to be for plates and stuff, but my bible was the perfect size! 🙂 I hope and pray that your home shrine grows!!!

Thanks for the description. 🙂 When it comes to cell phones I can only go with the experience I have with mine. So, here goes. 🙂 If your phone came with a USB Cable

http://www.brookstone.com/bs_assets/images/shop/large_300/533281_p.jpg

Then you can connect your cellphone to the USB connector on your computer. All you have to do is connect both ends of the usb cable, click on the **My Computer **icon on your desktop. The page should then show you all the drives ( C:, D: ) and the name model of your phone should show up along side the drives. Click on your phone model icon and the pics stored on your phone should show. You would then right click the pic you want and copy it to another folder.

After this all you need to do is attach your pic, upload it from your pc and post as usual.

Good luck and if you need further clarification don’t hesitate to contact me.

Peace

*I keep repeating digicam instead of cell phone, duh for me! lol Edited to change from digicam to cell phone.

Thanks! 🙂 I also hope and pray for your shrines growth. Wow on you for the 2 buck stand. Now my pockets won’t cry so much when I buy it. 😛

Peace

I am such a DUH-mmy! I could of just told you to send the picture via message through your cell phone to your e-mail, right-click the pic in your e-mail and save it to a folder on your computer. Then you attach the pic when posting! But noooo, I had to explain it the hard way.

Peace.

OLG is one of my favorite images of Mary. To me, it’s one of the most realistic, as portraits of Our Lady with blonde hair and blue eyes bug me. I don’t think many Galileeans had such features back in the day…

:rotfl: Paz… thanks. I will try your second suggestion. I have to keep in mind though… that I’m using Fred Flintstone’s computer. It’s an old iMac flatscreen made of stone, and a tiny dinosaur on a treadmill powers the thing. hehe. But thanks anyway for the attempt to help me. Hope I can figure it out.😊

P.S. I love this thread. I hope you get a bunch more pics.

Well MarieVeronica (like that name) I have no idea how to work with an iMac with a treadmill for power  but I am rooting for you all the way that my suggestion works. 👍

I hope it gets more piccies too as I love to drool over how beautiful the home shrines are!

Peace.
