If its a required necessity, yes. But if you’re following Catholic rules you have to follow them like a priest.

Can laypeople do homebound communion? Documentation please.
Your question can be interpreted in so many different ways, there just isn’t an answer to it.

If you re-phrase the question and be more specific, you might get some answers. Folks here can be very helpful, but they have to know what you’re asking first.

I was doing homebound communion but then a priest I know said absolutley not. This is to be done by a priest or deacon. I’m looking for something that says it is to be done by the ordained or something that says in some cases a layperson can do it.

What do you mean by “homebound communion”? That’s the question.

Your question could be taken to mean:

Laypeople getting some bread and wine and having their own little “mass” in the house.

That might not be what you mean, but my point is that without telling us what you mean by “homebound communion” no one can even attempt to answer your question.

Is someone removing Communion from the church without the priest’s knowledge?

Is one priest doing something, but another priest told you it shouldn’t be done? Is someone other-than-a-priest doing something and some priest told you it’s not right? It seems that something like these might be what you’re asking, but I can’t tell for sure.

What do you mean exactly by saying that you were “doing” homebound Communion? Were you receiving Communion or giving Communion? Your question could be taken either way. Where did it come from?

Again, if you share with us exactly what you mean by the question, then we can try our best to answer you. But not knowing what you’re asking, no one can even try.

Well, whatever you’re referring to, if he tells you no, it’s no. That’s it. He’s the priest, and he won’t allow you. You must obey.

it is an extension of the role of emhc. if it is possible for an ordained person or an instituted acolyte to do it, he should. lay people should only do it if its absolutely impossible for the priest(s) and deacon(s) and instituted acolytes

so if he says he can do it, you should not be doing it.

We do not know if the “(the) priest I know” means his pastor or is even assigned to his parish.

Are you scheduled as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion to the homebound and have had training on what to do? Or are you just a layperson who wants to be of service to a friend, an acquaintance or family member by bringing them Communion?

EMHC to the homebound are lay persons who have been asked to do this service and have had training. A lay person cannot just take it upon themself to bring Communion to a family member because Father or the Deacon can’t get to it.

[133.] A Priest or Deacon, or an extraordinary minister who takes the Most Holy Eucharist when an ordained minister is absent or impeded in order to administer it as Communion for a sick person, should go insofar as possible directly from the place where the Sacrament is reserved to the sick person’s home, leaving aside any profane business so that any danger of profanation may be avoided and the greatest reverence for the Body of Christ may be ensured. Furthermore the Rite for the administration of Communion to the sick, as prescribed in the Roman Ritual, is always to be used.[226]

no, i’m not meaning to imply that in any way they can do it themselves.

im saying that they shouldnt be comissioned if the priest can do it himself. the op wanted an explination, so i gave him/her one.

if you mean, may a lay person be commissioned and properly trained as a communion minister for this sick, whether they are confined at home or in a hospital or another institution, yes they may, by permission of the pastor. They must learn how to do it, the proper service and ritual for bringing communion to the sick and homebound, and obtain the sacred species and transport it properly. See your pastor.

I did not mean to suggest that you in any way implied something that you did not. I was merely expounding upon your correct reply :),

Bringing Communion to the sick and homebound is a recognized ministry of the Church, but cannot be done by just anyone. Lay persons can only help distribute Communion (whether during Mass or outside of Mass) if they are specifically given permission to do so by their pastor. Generally, this would require screening, approval by the bishop, by the bishop’s office, and training.
