“How often do you vaccuum, dust, clean the bathrooms, wash the floors and change the sheets?”
~Our house is very dusty, and we also have 3 cats, so I dust every week in the living/dining rooms. The other rooms are dusted every 10 - 14 days; half one week, half the other (I could dust everything each week, but I HATE dusting).
~Kids vacuum a few times each week.
~I clean the bathrooms each week.
~I wash the kitchen floor 2-4 times a month and sweep when needed.
~We change bedding when needed.

“How often do you clean out your fridge, the microwave and behind the couch?”
~I completely clean out the fridge twice a year; if something spills, I’ll do spot cleaning.
~Microwave gets cleaned as needed.
~Kids sweep/vacuum behind the couches once a month (or sooner if we see dust bunnies peeking out  ).

“How often do you move the big appliances and clean behind them?”
~A few times a year.

“How do you keep your drawers and cabinets organized & clutter free.”
~Cabinets are always organized; when I buy more food, I store the newer items behind the older ones. I try not to buy more of one item than I have space for. A few times a year, I rearrange the items on my shelves in order to utilize the space better.
~At the beginning of the year, I go through all of our Rx and OTC meds and throw out anything that has expired.
~My ‘Junk Drawer’ gets cleaned a few times a year.
~All other drawers are relatively organized. I fold & put things away; if a drawer gets so full that I can’t close it, that means I need to get rid of excess stuff (This usually happens with the kids’ drawers).

“What are your hot spots and how do you keep them from getting overwhelming?”
~Our hot spots are the end tables in the living room (homeschool stuff/art supplies), kitchen table (paperwork dh brings home from work, coupons, small toys, etc.), dining room table (homeschool stuff, laptop, etc.), and the fireplace in the familyroom (gaming stuff).
~For the homeschooling stuff, I bought a 3-tray rolling cart to store everything on and that has made things better (there still is clutter, but not as much as before). For the paperwork that my dh brings home, I’ve have to be on top of it all the time; they get read and then delgated to the basement files or shredded (I’ve told my dh NOT to bring all these papers home, but that’s not working out so well).
~These hot spots are my main stuggle areas, but I am slowly getting better. Dh wishes I would improve faster :o, but then I wish he wasn’t such a packrat; just think, I could get rid of soooo much junk…er…stuff 😉 .

“How often do you get rid of kids clothes and toys or do you keep them & if so how do you store them?”
~I have 1 rubbermaid container of special baby clothes. After my youngest outgrows his clothes, they are packed up and sent to Goodwill or some other charity. After ds #2 outgrows his pants/jeans, I also give them away since ds #3 and #4 are super slims and can’t fit into regular sized pants/jeans.
~Since I have all boys, I have had years where I had clothes ranging in sizes from 6 boys to M mens  All off-size clothing is stored in rubbermaid containers (10/12 in one, 12/14 in another, etc.) and stored in our crawl space. Off-size shoes, sandals, and winter coats are stored in a ‘cedar’ closet in our basement.
~Twice a year (May & September), I switch the seasonal clothes and weed out any that are torn, don’t fit, or that clash with red hair 😃 . I have only a certain amount of drawer/closet space; if the kids have too many outfits, they have to pick their favorites and get rid of the excess.
~We’ve done something similar with toys. My youngest is 10, and except for gaming stuff, legos, micro machines, and nerf guns, they don’t have too many toys. The small items are stored in plastic storage containers under the bed.

Hope this helps.

I’m a single guy for the next ~5 mo or so, but I’ll answer since I"ve been living on my own for a while
I think I do a somewhat decent job of keeping things tidy but I definitely have problems with my closets and drawers accumulating clutter :S. Anyways I also wanted to get in a better routine for cleaning before the new baby comes along so I have everything cleaned and organized before then! I was wondering…
-how often do you vaccuum, dust, clean the bathrooms, wash the floors and change the sheets?
-how often do you clean out your fridge, the microwave and behind the couch?
Weekly
-how often do you move the big appliances and clean behind them?
Wow, I’ve never done that and actually neither did my parents all that often (maybe every yr?) and they kept one clean house
-how do you keep your drawers and cabinets organized & clutter free
The ideal way of doing this is in every day use. It’s easier to clean up a small mess right at the moment it’s going to be made then pick it all up at once after a week or so of mess making. It’s all up to how you live your lives though, and if kids are involved 😛
-what are your hot spots and how do you keep them from getting overwhelming?
I’m blessed that my main high traffic area is tiled, so weekly moping generally works. But, if you have carpet a small rug just inside the door helps. You can then toss that in the wash weekly.
-how often do you get rid of kids clothes and toys or do you keep them & if so how do you store them?
-if you use a laundromat or coin laundry in a high rise, how often do you do the laundry
-what do you clean daily? weekly? monthly? yearly?
Lucky enough that I’ve had built in washer/dryer since I moved to NC… In fact out side of one appartment in Marquette MI I’ve always had that. Typically I’ve done mine weekly but it’s easier to do it that way for just one person. I imagine it’ll be far more frequent with a family, daily might make more sense.
etc etc…

I change our bed sheets once a week and the kids sheets once a month or whenever they wet the bed:o We vacuum the entire house maybe once a month and spot vacuum a few times weekly. I mop about once every other week and clean the entire bathrooms the same. Wash dishes and freshen up kitchen daily. Wipe off kitchen table and counters daily. Clean kitty litter box daily or every other day if we forget. Do laundry daily and wash cloth dipes every 2-3 days.

You really do not want to know mine. It’s called the “15 minute hurry up and pick up this mess before your dad gets home” routine. :o

I really did do better at this, BEFORE I had kids.
This is exactly what I was going to say…only mine involves screaming at the poor kids to help:blush:

My cleaning routine is as follows.
  1. Assess the cleaning situation.
  2. Freak out about the cleaning situation.
  3. Rest and recover from the trauma of having assessed the cleaning situation.
  4. Marry someone with lower cleaning standards than you.
  5. Repeat steps 1-3 as needed.
Works for me! 👍

I feel so inadequate reading this thread.
I feel EXHAUSTED reading this thread.

I’m a lousy housekeeper. I don’t notice clutter and I’ll step over things on the floor without it registering that I’ve done it. The living/family room accumulates junk at a heck of a rate and the dining room table can often not be seen for papers, books, laptops, mail, etc. Then one day I’ll look and have a meltdown because the task appear so huge! The worse part is that there are only DH and I living here.

Laundry is done as needed, usually a couple of loads per week.
Fridge, thoroughly every couple of months, spot cleaned in between.
Bathrooms once a week (use of Lysol wipes on toilet every couple of days).
Floors, when I see spots or when I know someone’s coming.

Move fridge once a year, stove every couple of months.
Microwave when it gets dirty (and I love those microfibre dishcloths that do such a wonderful job).

I’m not great at keeping the kitchen neat – although I was a Tupperware distributor and have one food section completely organized with Modular Mates. Makes finding baking supplies/pasta/rice very easy. But after supper, if I’m off to a meeting, the food will get put away but nothing much else will be done until after work the next day.

Vacuuming is done when I notice it and will sometimes dry mop instead (I have hardwood everywhere but the kitchen & baths). Whenever I vacuum, I move the couch and love seat.

I am a single guy, but I figured I would chime in since I am a real neat person.
I am a single guy, but I figured I would chime in since I am NOT ( in any way, shape or form) a neat guy:nope:

I have a cleaning lady who comes over once a month to clean up the apartment to HER standards. This involves my spending the next two weeks trying to find out where she “neatly” stored all the stuff that was out.

Like me, she is a member of AA. Unlike me, she needs the money, so it is $80 per visit. The only thing she does not clean are the eight (8) litter boxes for my three (3 cats). That is strictly my responsability. She informs me of what cleaning supplies I need to buy before her next visit. :o
