I’m from the Coast of Mississippi, and I recently moved to Boston to attend college. I was attending mass at a Church near me for a short time and the priest there was so cool. He had a great way of reaching the young adults there with his words, and I was moved to tears from a few of his homilies. Then one Sunday, I went to mass and have since not gone back. During his homily he started speaking openly about how women will hopefully be able to become priests soon, and then acknowledged an “Episcopalian Priestess” in the crowd of folks, and she happened to be sitting near me. I was infuriated… but most of all I felt heart broken. I felt like I had finally found a guy here that I could relate to and come to for help… and I didn’t feel as alone. Boy, was I wrong.

I kept getting panic attacks in that Church… and I had no idea why. Since the first time I went there, I always felt strange. Not sure if that is even worth mentioning, but I figured that I would throw it in there.

I started going to St. Anthony’s Shrine in the city… which is home to the Friars… O.F.M… REAL cool dudes there. I’ve made that my place to be on Sundays(and weekdays when I can make it), but I still think about the other priest all the time… and I try to include him in my prayers often.

Later that day after mass, I wrote the archdiocese but still have no recieved a reply? I don’t know what to do! Should I talk to the priest? Let it go? Write to the archdiocse again, or what?

Prayers are needed, folks. I spoke to a few members of the church that had known this priest for a while, and I asked them how he feels about abortion. They told me that he’s more on the liberal side of things. EDIT
I need advice. Please help.

You wrote the Bishop. Now let it go. Its up to the Bishop now and he is not likely to inform you of what action he has taken if any. Its a happy situation that you have found a place to attend Mass that is on the up-and-up. Be at peace.

Okay, first of all, I don’t think this is just a regular “bishop”. This person mentioned the key words “Archdiocese” and “Boston”. That can mean only one thing: The Archdiocese of Boston. This is His Eminence Sean Patrick O’Malley’s diocese. I’ve actually met this cardinal personally and he is a wonderful, holy man. He also likes Latin and supports(not firmly, but at least supports) tradition, respectively.

However, the person above me is right; His Eminence, not even his secretaries, respond to letters and such of petty matters: including the Latin Mass. But when you tell him that a priest of his diocese is openly preaching about and supporting females priests and such in the Church, I can almost assure you that His Eminece will see to it that something is done.

For now, just pray for that parish and that priest. 👍

Hah! Yeah! He’s the man! They brought him in to do some house cleaning, and it’s due time for some more!

I will pray… thanks for your responses.

That is absolutely SHOCKING!

I’m praying for a strong intervention at that parish!

I’m positive that Cardinal Sean will take care of it somehow… you should rest easy 🙂

He really is a blessing for Boston, and he’s got alot on his plate to fix.

Almighty God, look upon the face of Him who is the eternal High

Priest, and have compassion on Your priests in today’s world. Remember that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their vocation. Keep them close to You lest the enemy prevail against them, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime vocation.

O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests, for the unfaithful and tepid ones; for those laboring at home and abroad in distant mission fields; for those who are tempted; for those who are lonely and desolate; for those who are in purgatory.

But, above all, I recommend to You the priests dearest to me; the priest who baptized me; the priests who absolved me from my sins; the priests who instructed me or helped me by their encouragement. I pray devoutly for all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way, in particular for names here]. O Jesus, keep them all close to Your heart and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.

I’ve been upset by several homilies myself. However, when a priest openly goes against the teachings of the Church, then that raises a big red flag.

I do hope that Cardinal O’Malley takes some action. Unfortunately, we’ve written to our bishop on numerous occasions and nothing has happened. Under Redemptionis Sacramentum, some of the faithful have taken the concerns to Francis Cardinal Arinze. they don’t expect a personal reply from his Eminence, but, I think that if enough people have the gumption to write, something will be done.
