If we have genes for homosexuality then we would have genes for adultery, and theft, and gossip. This is impossible since God made us all good. These sinful inclinations are a result of original sin, the devil, personal sin, or our circumstances in the world, they do not have God as their cause. Some may be more succecptible to one sin or another. God allows us to be tempted to different sins. As with all sinful inclinations or temptations, they must be rejected. We must live the life of virtue.

No way! Seriously? Makes sense, though. I know a really tall couple and their daughter’s tall.
It is not necessary to be in a tall family. You can learn to become tall even if only your friends or acquaintances are above average height.

You’re so insistent that it must be true.

We must do better in opposing the lie that you must be having sex actively in order to be fully alive. Lonely in celibacy? Yes! Fulfilling life anyway? YES, YES, YES!!! God love, not sex, is ultimate fulfillment; it is HIS love that makes us fully alive…
When the lonely celibate person doesn’t have a companion in life, who do they turn to for help when life overwhelms them? Who helps them to take care of their sick, elderly parents if they have no siblings? Who supports them financially if they lose their job? Who takes care of them if they’re sick? Who listens to them and offers advice at almost any time of day? Friends can help a little, but in my experience, they aren’t going to do so to the same extent that someone’s significant other will. And God’s love won’t help with most of these kinds of things.

God doesn’t fault one for having or wanting a “significant other” - after all, He was the One who said “It is not good for the man to be alone”. He does, however, tell us who a proper “significant other” is - one of the opposite sex, one that is not bound to a spouse, etc.

That is the current problem with Western society: a misuse and distortion of true human sexuality. The CDC in the US has issued a warning about an STD epidemic but it is not news anyone wants to spread.
It’s fine for someone to say that based on their religious beliefs, people shouldn’t have sex outside of marriage and that only men and women can be married. But what’s the point of bringing up STDs? Homosexual sex does not cause STDs any more than heterosexual sex causes STDs. In both cases, there are ways to reduce the risk of STDs. And if two people in a relationship don’t have an STD and are in a monogamous relationship, there is zero chance of either one getting an STD. That would be true for either heterosexual or homosexual couples. There is no causal link between someone’s sexual orientation and contracting an STD.

But some people, through no fault of their own, aren’t sexually attracted to the opposite sex, so it’s not really possible for them to have a significant other of the opposite sex. If God thinks that it’s “not good for the man to be alone,” why does He allow some of them to be in a position of not being able to have a companion?

  1. There is a difference of opinion on this. I haven’t thread through this whole thread, but I suspect that there are some disagreements in the answers you’re getting. I am of the opinion that homosexuals did not choose to be homosexuals. I’m a bisexual and I know that I didn’t choose to be attracted to both sexes. My sexuality naturally developed over time, in a way that was beyond choosing.
  2. That’s how it should be.
  3. We can judge the fact that homosexuality is sinful because that’s what it says in the Scriptures. We don’t know whether your niece is in Heaven or Hell (and I don’t believe in Purgatory). Indeed, every homosexual is made in the image of God. It’s not necessarily the tendency that is sinful-- it’s the homosexual acts that are sinful. We can and should love homosexuals, but we must not conform our Gospel to the trends of the day or the desires of carnal activists.

I have no answers, just prayers.

Rest in Peace

Eternal rest grant unto the OP’s niece, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon her.

And may the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

I don’t understand why people conjured up the term same sex attraction as a way of circumventing homosexual.
Because “gay” or “homosexual” can either refer to an identity, a feeling or an action.

In circles where the term “same sex attraction” is common, it refers to feelings and ideas. You can have ssa and be chaste. Or not.
In these same circles, “practicing and promoting homosexuality” means sexual activity with your same sex and approving or encouraging others to do so. Shortened to “pph”.

It’s an attempt at precise language.

OP, I’m sorry for your loss.
I’ll remember your dear niece and your family in my prayers.:pray:t2:

It breaks my heart that this young woman could not conceive of a happy life chaste
It’s more than that.

In most asian households, those who identify as lgbt are seen as a disgrace and families are willing to kick them out of their own homes.

At the same time, they pressure their daughters to marry whoever that has money and a good reputation.

My niece recently took her life. Being born in Chinese Catholic household she couldn’t face her future for being lesbian.
I’m very sorry for your lose. Homosexual persons are likely candidates of depression and suicide, and the burden of this falls on the rest of us. Our neighbor’s well-being is our responsibility. I will pray for her repose.

If you review this professor’s biography and professional history, you’ll find he’s spent much of his academic life railing against same-sex marriage and “defending” traditional marriage.

He’s also a lawyer, not a psychologist or clinical social worker.

Hey!
Its quite evident that in this modern era we are still searching the reasons to accept home sexuality which is natural and one cannot change it.

I did. I also read the biography of the author, which is far more relevant because it reveals the bias he brings to the table.

Independent scholars begin their studies with a question. They allow their research to answer that question. The author of that study has already reached his conclusion with respect to same sex marriages, as evidenced in his many other works. He is not independent.

Yes, I do think it’s a choice. Homosexuality was wide spread in the Greek/pagan world. Christian morality helped end it for a long time before it society eroded enough to start condoning it again.
This is not true. Brutal laws and persecution forced homosexuality underground and made it secret. It isn’t that it didn’t exist; it’s just that people didn’t talk about it.

It hurts my heart that people who proclaims to be loving followers of Jesus continue to persist in a pattern of thought that is nothing but hurtful towards so many people.

They did it to avoid calling them sodomites since sodomy is the crime they say they have to commit and no one was going to fall for “love is love” when they talked about sodomy.

Right. And his article is a law review article, not a study.

There’s a piece (from a pro-gay viewpoint) refuting the article and other research:

piece
On page four, Dent cites both Paul Cameron and George Rekers, both discredited researchers. Cameron has been censured or rebuked by several organizations for his bad methodology in his studies and Rekers lost a lot of credibility for last year’s scandal when he was caught coming from a European vacation with a “rentboy.”

On page two, Dent cites the work of Walter Schumm’s study Children of Homosexuals More Apt To Be Homosexuals? A Reply to Morrison and to Cameron Based on an Examination of Multiple Sources of Data .

Schumm’s study was criticized for using the same false methodology as Cameron’s work. i.e. citing sources “from general-audience books about LGBT parenting and families, most of which are available on Amazon.com”
